Job summary

Kershaw Equipment LLC, located in Montgomery, AL, seeks an Engineer responsible for mechanical and hydraulic designs supporting vehicle architectures for rail maintenance and vegetation management equipment. The role develops patterns, documents results, and leads testing to meet schedules and quality targets.

The candidate will work with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and service teams to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions. A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Experience with mechanical-hydraulic systems in off-road, rail, or forestry equipment is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

  • Support mechanical and hydraulic architecture design for all product lines with engineers to ensure integrated, optimized machine solutions.
  • Diagnose and solve problems related to hydraulic and/or mechanical systems in production support.
  • Develop catalog of mechanical and hydraulic components supporting vehicle architecture.
  • Responsible for mechanical assemblies, hydraulic schematics, and technical support documentation.
  • Participate in structuring, release, and maintenance of product lines' BOMs and technical specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards.
  • Learn product lines, attend training, and interface with customers.
  • Develops, writes, and coordinates engineering deviations, change requests, and change orders; close items timely.
  • Perform additional job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Job description

The Engineer is responsible for mechanical and hydraulic designs that support the vehicle architectures of our rail maintenance and vegetation management equipment. This role develops mechanical designs, hydraulic schematics, technical documentation, and test plans, and partners with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and service to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions. The position leads verification and validation testing, documents results, and drives corrective actions to meet program schedules, quality standards, and performance targets.

Drive Business Results
  • Support mechanical and hydraulic related architecture design for all product lines working closely with Mechanical, Hydraulic, and Systems Engineers to ensure integrated, optimized machine solutions.
  • Supports production by diagnosing and solving problems related to hydraulic and/or mechanical systems.
  • Develop catalog of mechanical and hydraulic components that support vehicle architecture.
  • Responsible for mechanical assemblies, hydraulic schematics, and technical support documentation.
  • Participate in the structuring, release, and maintenance of the assigned product lines: bills of materials, published technical specifications, and other related documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards.
  • Desire to learn product lines, attend training, participate in field visits and interface with customers.
  • Develops, writes, and coordinates engineering deviations, change requests, change orders, and works to close items in a timely manner.
  • Performs additional job‑related duties and special projects, as assigned.
Experience and Education:
  • Experience: Minimum 2-5+ years' experience with mechanical-hydraulic systems for off-road, construction, rail, or forestry equipment preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal communication.
  • Technology: Strong working knowledge of MS Office, AutoDesk Inventor and AutoCAD, PDM software and ERP/MRP software preferred.
