Job summary

Virgin Hotels Las Vegas seeks an engineer to ensure all hotel areas—from guest rooms to meetings and offices—are well-maintained and attractive. You will assist in repairs, refurbishment, and upkeep to keep the property functional for guests and staff.

Responsibilities include completing work orders, inspections, promptly addressing guest needs, and maintaining safety equipment. Requires EPA/HVAC certifications and flexibility to work weekends.

Qualifications

YOUR MISSION (The Job Description)

As an engineer you will ensure that everything in the hotel from the guest rooms (a.k.a. chambers), meeting rooms, restaurants, offices, is in good working order for our guests, clients, vendors, and teammates. Additionally, you will assist in the maintenance, repair, refurbishment, renovation, remodeling, and general upkeep to keep the facility functional and attractive to prospective customers.

THE NITTY-GRITTY (The Essential Job Duties)

• Completes assigned work orders for general repair within assigned time frame to achieve the utmost operational efficiency of the hotel, its safety, and its equipment
• Performs systematic checks and inspections to aid in the upkeep of the hotel and assists in the established proactive maintenance program to prevent malfunctions, breakdowns, and general depreciation
• Immediately and courteously responds to guests needs to repair and/or resolve room maintenance requests and problems as they arise
• Maintains tools, workspaces, and equipment in safe, secure, and good condition to reduce accidents and to prolong their use
• Repairs and/or changes room locks for the security of hotel and guests
• Adjusts and repairs electronic problems on hotel equipment, including televisions, alarm clocks, HVAC units, etc.
• Assists department in maintaining safety equipment and emergency procedures for the safety of all guests and teammates
• Maintains a friendly, cheerful, and courteous manner always.
• Report to designated shift in assigned attire on time (if applicable)

• Must have basic working knowledge in the following areas: general plumbing, refrigeration, air conditioning electrical systems, boilers bathroom fixtures and tiling painting, prep to finish basic carpentry, grounds keeping, etc.
• Must have vision to read written communication, LED read-outs, meters, and computer screens
• Must have finger, hand, and upper body dexterity to pull levers and rotate knobs, work with arms raised above head and to handle and assemble small parts using basic hand and power tools
• Must be able to understand and follow verbal/written instructions, communicate both verbally and in writing, utilize analytical thought processes, understand verbal/written technical and mechanical instruction, and be highly organized.
• Must have ability to communicate effectively and courteously with employees, guests, and contractors in writing, via telephone and in person
• Comply with all safety and health department procedures as well as all state and federal laws
• Adhere to hotel policies including but not limited to attendance, safety, and behavior
• Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance
• Enjoy being around and working with people

MUST HAVE'S

• Current, legal, and unrestricted ability to work in the United States
• High school or equivalent education required
• Ability to work a flexible schedule

THE WORKING CONDITIONS

• Must have leg strength and ability to crawl into and through small spaces, climb ladders, support, and carry loads of 75lbs. throughout an 8-hour shift
• Operate in a working environment that is subject to varying levels of cold, heat, noise, crowds, smoke, and vibration. Incumbents are at times subjected to hazards such as the dangers associated with the use of basic hand and power tools and testing equipment
• This position occasionally works outside and is subject to all weather conditions. Proper clothing is provided
• Inspect and maintain areas for which are responsible
• Review and comprehend all necessary documentation
• Examine all areas of the facility, including attics and basements, which require climbing, balancing, crawling, and reaching to be able to accurately inspect all areas
• Around extreme heat when working in the boiler room
• Use small hand tools such as screwdrivers and pliers to make all necessary repairs
• Use all equipment associated with the position, including but not limited to basic hand and power tools and testing equipment
• Effectively and efficiently move around work areas
