Job summary

Zurn Elkay Water Solutions Corporation is seeking an Engineer to support production with quality and engineering responsibilities. The role emphasizes continuous improvement, identifying and solving manufacturing issues, implementing product design enhancements, and ensuring overall process integrity.

The ideal candidate will help optimize processes, prepare SOPs, and work closely with the Production Manager to maximize capacity and quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or Technical Diploma in a related discipline.
• Six Sigma techniques and Lean Manufacturing knowledge desirable.
• Experience with CAD/CAM and manufacturing processes preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create new products based on specs and generate CNC programs.
• Collaborate with engineering on new product developments and pricing.
• Design/fabricate jigs/fixtures and gages for quality and manufacturing.
• Support operations in producing new products and resolve shop issues.
• Coordinate planning and manufacturing for samples; support CES on special orders.
• Investigate production-related quality issues and document/root-cause analyses.
• Approve in-process production and finished products by verifying specs and tests.
• Document inspection results and maintain quality data.
• Suggest process automation and prepare SWIs and SOPs for quality and manufacturing.
• Work with Production Manager to maximize capacity and throughput.
• Optimize equipment programming to improve capacity, throughput and quality.
• Assist with non-conformances (NCM) and corrective actions.
• Repair machines with maintenance team when new designs are needed.
• Share best practices and foster cross-location collaboration.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Engineer role includes quality and engineering responsibilities in support of production. This includes continuous improvement by identifying and solving quality and manufacturing issues, making product design enhancements, and ensuring overall product and process integrity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Creating new products based on the specs and making the CNC programs accordingly
• Working with engineering team for the new product developments/ pricing.
• Designing/fabricating new jigs/fixtures and gages for the quality/manufacturing purposes.
• Support Operations when making the new products and solve the manufacturing problems/issues in the shop.
• Following up with planning and manufacturing to make samples if needed, and Support CES (Customer Experience support) on special order, paint consumption and locker design request.
• Investigates production related Quality issues, preparation and management of reports (SCAR, ICAR) to document, root cause analysis, implements corrective action, recommends modifications to processes and procedures.
• Approves in-process production by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; communicating required adjustments to production supervisor.
• Approves finished products by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; returning products for re-work; confirming re-work.
• Documents inspection results by completing reports and logs; summarizing re-work and waste; inputting data into quality database.
• Continually looking for process automation, innovation opportunities and prepare SWI and SOPs for quality and manufacturing.
• Continually works closely with Production Manager and Production Supervisors to maximize production capacity.
• Optimization of equipment programming to improve capacity, throughput and quality.
• Assist with Non-Conformances (NCM), Quality Investigation and Countermeasures.
• Working with maintenance and help to repair the machines. (when a new design is needed).
• Contributes to the overall functioning of the team by maintaining awareness of best practices/emerging issues, both internal and external, sharing best practices and building effective working relationships across the team and company.
• Help create, revise, improve, and administer quality policy and procedures.
• Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Processes, and Policies are followed.
• Work with quality reps from other locations to recognize and implement best practices and provide coverage when members of the quality team are away.
• Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS

• Must possess excellent communication skills for liaising and communicating with vendors, customers, and internal departments
• Extremely detail-oriented and analytical thinker.
• AlphaCAM/Mastercam proficiency.
• AutoCAD/SolidWorks experience with 3D Modelling.
• CNC experience would be an asset.
• Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
• High level of proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office productivity suite, AutoCAD and Inventor
• Continuous improvement mindset.
• Strong ability to analyze data to recognize trends and implement data driven improvements.
• Strong leadership skills

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

• Manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery and noise with moderate exposure to chemicals.
• Environment warrants the use of prescribed PPE (CSA Approved Safety boots, Safety glasses, hearing protection and other prescribed PPE depending on the department assigned.
• Work requiring fine motors skills, repetitive motion, standing and or lifting up to 50 lbs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelors' Degree or Technical Diploma in a related discipline
• Training and knowledge of Six Sigma techniques and Lean Manufacturing are desirable.
