Job summary

Stellantis Financial Services in Auburn Hills, MI, seeks a Senior Engineer - Engine Validation to build and execute the engine validation plan for a major engine program, coordinating DV&D PV activities and reporting progress weekly to the Chief Engineer.

You will develop DVPR at system level, manage engine builds, lead test procedures, analyze failures, and ensure proper documentation and disposition of test properties; strong collaboration with Engine Build team is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 5+ years in Internal Combustion Engine component design, development and/or validation.
  • Minimum 1 year in engine validation or component/system validation.
  • Understanding of DFMEA and DVP&R in automotive contexts.
  • Familiarity with automotive engine design, components, and testing.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and leadership experience.
  • Organized, action-oriented, adaptable to ambiguity, customer-focused, problem-solving.

Job description

The Senior Engineer - Engine Validation is responsible for building and executing the engine validation plan for a major engine program.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop Engine DVP&R document for system level (engine dynamometer) testing
  • Maintain build records of each engine and arrange disposition or storage as needed.
  • Work with Engine Build team to arrange for the build and delivery Engine Assemblies to dyno cells for design verification (DV) testing and Mule level vehicle builds.
  • Lead the Maintenance, Development, and Improvement of Test Procedures, Design Validation Plans, (“DV”) and Process Validation plans (“PV”) for Internal Combustion Engines.
  • Lead development and execution of DV and PV tests based on performance requirements, core DVP, DFMEA, field issues/design issues and best practices.
  • Provide technical expertise in investigation of validation issues, root cause analysis, mitigation, and corrective action plans.
  • Review and publish test results to the greater team.
  • Conduct tests, recreate failure modes identified during validation testing or warranty claims.
  • Log Incident Reports for each issue to ensure engineering team drives issues to closure. Create issues in S2IRIUSsystem where appropriate
  • Report out regularly to the Chief Engineer organization on the status and progress of testing. This reporting will continue weekly until the validation plan is completed and signed off by the Chief Engineer.
  • As testing progresses, the Validation Engineer will update the Test Timing Plan and the DVP&R document to ensure they are kept current on at least a weekly basis.
  • After testing, organize the post test analysis and teardown activity along with the project team to identify any issues or concerns.
  • Review reports with the Chief Engineer and file them in PDS.
  • Provide instructions for disposition, re-use or recycling of the test properties
  • A final review must be completed when all validation activity is complete to ensure all records are properly collected and stored.
Basic Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, from an ABET accredited school or equivalent
  • 5 years minimum experience in Internal Combustion Engine component design, development and/or validation
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in engine validation or component or system validation
  • Understanding of automotive processes such as DFMEA and DVP&R
  • Familiarity with automotive engine design, components, and testing
  • Strong interpersonal communication, team/leadership skills/experience
  • Critical character traits to ensure success: Organized, Action Oriented, Dealing with Ambiguity, Customer Focus, Problem Solving.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in with emphasis in engine development, control systems, or calibration.
  • Understanding of CAN communication
  • Working experience in creation and execution of validation plans for engines and engine components.
  • 7 years or more in design, development and / or validation of engines
  • Experience with engine teardowns and rebuilds
