Position

Engine Production Machinist – operate the Sunnen SV-30 Cylinder Hone.

Summary

Primarily tasked with operating the Sunnen SV-30 Cylinder Hone, creating and revising CNC programs, interpreting technical drawings, and ensuring precision and quality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate the SV-30 hone, including installation of hone deck plates.
• Record essential data including bore sizes and surface finish measurements.
• Create or modify 3‑axis or greater CNC programs for production runs.
• Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance with specifications.
• Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines.
• Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds indicating dull tools or excessive vibration; adjust accordingly.
• Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or modify controls when programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.
• Stop machines to remove finished workpieces, change tooling, or adjust setup per machining sequences.
• Check that workpieces are lubricated and cooled during operation.
• Input initial part dimensions into machine control panels.
• Confer with supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions or production errors.
• Monitor machine operation and control‑panel displays, compare readings to specifications to detect malfunctions.
• Clean machines, tooling or parts using solvents or solutions and rags.
• Clean the shop and maintain safe housekeeping practices.
• Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and measuring instruments.
• Set, monitor, and modify tolerance levels and cutting speeds to meet specifications.
• Inspect produced components or parts to ensure quality and accuracy.
• Use hand tools, lathes, mills, cutters, and grinders as required.
• Perform other duties assigned by management.

Qualifications

• Team player with strong communication skills.
• Extensive knowledge of hand tools, drill press, grinders, and other machine shop equipment.

Physical Demands

• Requires vision (near, peripheral, depth), sense of touch, and ability to wear PPE: hearing protection, safety glasses, and hand protection.
• Constantly stands, lifts/carries 10 pounds or less, pushes/pulls 12 pounds or less.
• Frequently reaches outward, lifts/carries up to 50 pounds, pushes/pulls up to 25 pounds.
• Occasionally walks, sits, reaches above shoulder, crawls, squats or kneels, bends, lifts/carries up to and over 100 pounds, pushes/pulls up to 100 pounds.

Environment Demands

Primarily works indoors and may be exposed to loud noises.
