Job summary

The Southern California Learning Corporation is seeking a Sylvan Teacher at our Westlake Village Center to deliver Sylvan program-based instruction. You will create engaging lessons, assess student progress, and collaborate with center staff to personalize learning experiences.

Ideal candidates hold a four-year degree (or equivalent), teaching credentials preferred, and have experience working with students.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree or equivalent required.
• State or provincial teaching credentials preferred.
• Minimum of one year of teaching experience preferred.
• AA degree required in a discipline; 3+ years of college level math.
• SAT/ACT, Test Prep, and Advanced Reading Skills knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares for each instructional session; gathers and prepares materials as appropriate.
• Greets students and initiates instruction to personally engage each student.
• Instructs students according to the design of the Sylvan programs.
• Manages students, tasks and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session.
• Evaluates and records the progress of each student on their program assignment.
• Uses praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn.
• Motivates students with Sylvan tokens for achievements and records tokens earned.
• Concludes each instructional session and completes learning logs and transition activities.
• Communicates specific student needs to Center Directors.
• Attends periodic staff meetings and completes ongoing training as needed.
• Completes certification training on each Sylvan program taught to students.
