Job summary

Thayer Academy is seeking an engaging substitute teacher to cover classes from 5th through 12th grade. The role follows the day’s lesson plan, supports a safe and inclusive classroom, and reports to Upper and Middle School leadership.

Typical hours are 7:45 am–3:45 pm, Monday through Friday, with some extended hours as needed. Ideal candidates have substitute teaching experience, the ability to lead classrooms, and a commitment to equity and inclusion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Experience teaching middle school and/or high school.
• Commitment to working in an inclusive community.
• Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and impact on classroom climate.
• Familiarity with a student information system and Google Suites.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain maximum availability to accept assignments.
• Execute lesson plans consistent with teacher guidelines and curriculum.
• Create a lesson plan if none is available.
• Establish a safe and welcoming classroom environment and provide a positive learning experience.
• Adhere to school policies and procedures.
• Record attendance according to school procedure.
• Assign homework according to the lesson plan.
• Collaborate with colleagues as needed.
• Provide a written update to the absent teacher including attendance, progress, conduct concerns, actions taken, and developments.
