Job summary

Jackson Public Schools in Jackson, MI is seeking a Substitute Teacher to provide classroom instruction and supervision in the absence of the regular teacher, following lesson plans and maintaining routines.

This per diem position requires a Michigan teaching certificate or qualifying credentials, fingerprinting compliance, and the ability to create a safe, inclusive learning environment while communicating with school staff.

Qualifications

• Temporary Teaching Authorization
• Current Michigan Teaching Certificate (Substitute Permit not required)
• Transcripts with a total of 60+ credit hours and a minimum 2.0 GPA from accredited colleges/universities
• Out of State Teaching Certificate accompanied by an undergraduate transcript showing 60+ credit hours and a minimum 2.0 GPA
• Some school districts may require more than 60 credit hours.

Responsibilities

• Report to the school office at the required time, sign in and obtain assignment materials and instructions.
• Review and follow lesson plans, schedules, classroom procedures, and school expectations.
• Provide instruction, learning activities, and student support appropriate to the assigned grade level and setting.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, orderly, and inclusive learning environment using classroom-management practices.
• Actively supervise students during classroom instruction and other activities as assigned.
• Monitor student participation and adapt within the provided lesson plan and school direction.
• Follow student health, safety, emergency, confidentiality, behavior-support, and accommodation procedures.
• Report significant concerns to the principal or designee; communicate with parents only when directed.
• Maintain accurate notes regarding completed work, attendance, and events requiring follow-up.
• Protect confidential student and school information and comply with policies and procedures.
• Perform other related duties as directed by the administrator.
