Job summary

Job description

PASCAL is a consortium of 56 college and university libraries housed within the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education. PASCAL provides mission-critical technology, core e-resources, statewide rapid resource sharing services, and support for academic libraries. In addition, the consortium fosters cooperation on a broad range of issues including shared licensing, collaborative collection management, affordable learning, and professional development.

The Engagement & Assessment Librarian supports PASCAL’s mission by coordinating communications, outreach, assessment, and professional development activities that promote effective use of consortium services and strengthen engagement with member libraries and stakeholders. Reporting to the Content & Services Program Manager, this position manages communication channels, including the consortium’s website; develops communication and promotional materials; coordinates training opportunities; collects, analyzes, and communicates data related to program effectiveness and impact; and assists member libraries in demonstrating the value of library services and resources. The incumbent works collaboratively with PASCAL staff, member institutions, vendors, and other partners to support strategic initiatives, program evaluation, and continuous improvement. The job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:

Communications & Engagement
  • Manages the design, content, and ongoing maintenance of PASCAL's website, newsletters, social media platforms, and other current and emerging communication channels to support effective engagement with internal and external audiences.
  • Works with PASCAL staff, member libraries, and partners to create and manage communication and promotional materials, stakeholder-focused messaging, shareable resources, templates, and marketing content to support PASCAL and member libraries in effectively communicating their value and engaging internal and external audiences.
  • Identifies public relations opportunities and develops press releases, media communications, success stories, and advocacy materials that increase awareness of PASCAL and academic library contributions to higher education.
  • Cultivates relationships with members, vendors, and other partners while fostering a strong sense of community through site visits, meetings, conferences, webinars, regional events, and other engagement activities that support member satisfaction and participation.
Assessment & Impact
  • Supports assessment and program evaluation efforts for consortium services and initiatives by collaborating with PASCAL staff to develop and manage assessment frameworks, data collection instruments, surveys, and analytics that measure effectiveness, identify opportunities for improvement, and inform strategic planning and program development.
  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets quantitative and qualitative data related to consortium services, member engagement, resource use, and program outcomes; prepares reports, dashboards, visualizations, and other assessment products that demonstrate the value, impact, and return on investment of PASCAL programs and services.
  • Develops and maintains systems for compiling, managing, and reporting data across consortium programs, supporting evidence-based decision-making and communicating the economic, operational, educational, and service benefits of collaborative initiatives to member libraries, institutional leaders, policymakers, funding agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with member libraries and PASCAL staff to collect, analyze, and communicate data and success stories that demonstrate the impact of academic libraries on student success, teaching, research, workforce development, and institutional goals.
Training & Professional Development
  • Collaborates with PASCAL staff, member libraries, vendors, and other partners to develop, coordinate, promote, and assess training and professional development opportunities that support the evolving needs of the PASCAL community.
Other
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Masters’ Degree in library or information sciences from ALA-accredited institution (or equivalent); another graduate degree and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in libraries or library consortia.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish priorities, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of program assessment techniques and tools.
  • Experience with design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud), content management systems, and social media platforms.
  • Experience writing and editing material for a variety of audiences for newsletters, social media, websites, or other outreach or communications channels.
  • Position may require overnight travel.
  • Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends.

  • Experience developing and implementing communication, marketing, or outreach strategies.
  • Experience using assessment, survey, reporting, or data visualization tools to collect, analyze, and communicate data.
  • Experience developing promotional materials and managing digital communication platforms.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, or delivering training and professional development programs.
  • Knowledge of Affordable Learning, Open Educational Resources (OER), and Open Education practices and initiatives.
  • Knowledge or experience with Ex Libris Alma & Primo.
  • Knowledge or experience with Springshare platforms (e.g. LibGuides, LibCal, LibAnswers)
  • Knowledge of academic library operations and higher education.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a permanent position. PASCAL team-members are categorized by the state as “Temporary Grant" employees of the Commission on Higher Education.
