Job summary

Chicago Urban League is seeking an Energy Transition Navigator to foster a network of community-based providers across Illinois. You will educate, outreach, and recruit eligible individuals to participate in clean energy workforce and contractor development programs.

Responsibilities include engaging community partners, conducting informational sessions, developing curricula, and tracking participation with monthly CEJA-related reporting.

Job description

The Energy Transition Navigator is a pivotal role dedicated to fostering a network of community-based providers throughout Illinois. The primary objective of this position is to facilitate community education, outreach, and recruitment efforts aimed at encouraging eligible individuals to participate in clean energy workforce and contractor development programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Community Engagement:
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local community organizations, leaders, and stakeholders.
  • Organize and attend community meetings, workshops, and events to promote clean energy programs.
  • Develop and distribute educational materials to raise awareness about clean energy opportunities.
• Outreach and Recruitment:
  • Identify and target eligible individuals for participation in clean energy workforce and contractor development programs.
  • Implement outreach strategies to maximize program participation, including door‑to‑door canvassing, phone banking, and social media campaigns.
  • Conduct informational sessions and provide one‑on‑one consultations to potential participants.
  • Conduct program assessments for interested program seekers to determine eligibility, readiness, service needs, and appropriate clean energy workforce pathways.
• Program Development and Support:
  • Collaborate with program managers to design and refine outreach and educational strategies.
  • Assist in the development of training materials and curricula for clean energy workforce programs.
  • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to program participants, helping them navigate the training and development process.
• Data Collection and Reporting:
  • Track outreach and recruitment activities, maintaining accurate records of interactions and outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports on program participation, engagement efforts, community feedback, outcomes, and other required CEJA‑related activities.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement in outreach strategies.
• Partnership Building:
  • Develop partnerships with educational institutions, workforce development agencies, and other relevant organizations to support program goals.
  • Coordinate with local governments and utilities to align efforts and maximize impact.
  • Attend monthly CEJA meetings and provide updates on outreach, recruitment, participant assessments, partnerships, and program progress.
  • Assist with obtaining MOUs, Letters of Support, and other documents for grant application purposes.

Nonessential: Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Workforce Development.

Interaction

This position requires the individual to work closely with the Workforce Development staff, collaborative partners, and contractors. He/she must possess great attention to detail and have strong organizational skills. This individual must understand, maintain, and uphold the mission and vision of the Chicago Urban League.

Knowledge and Skills

• Proven experience in community outreach, education, or a related role.
• Strong understanding of clean energy principles and workforce development.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse communities.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with CRM systems.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout Illinois as required.
• Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple outreach, reporting, assessment, and partnership responsibilities simultaneously.
• Strong public speaking and presentation skills for community meetings, informational sessions, workshops, and partner events.
• Strong reporting skills, including the ability to prepare accurate monthly reports, progress updates, participation summaries, and outcome documentation.
