Westinghouse Electric Company LLC, via WECTEC Staffing Services, seeks an Energy Storage Project Engineer in Florida for an 11-month contract. You will lead detailed electrical, structural and civil design for utility-scale storage projects, from conception to execution, coordinating with external Engineers of Record and construction teams.

Expertise in battery storage systems, interconnection studies, regulatory compliance, and value engineering is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 11+ years of proven engineering experience.
• Expertise in battery storage system design and substation engineering.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed design engineering of electrical, structural and civil aspects of utility-scale energy storage augmentation projects.
• Manage multiple concurrent high-volume battery augmentation projects from conception through execution, working with external Engineers of Record, Project Managers and permitting, procurement, interconnection and construction teams.
• Support projects from conception through execution, working with early-stage and construction project managers.
• Influence project teams in the engineering aspects of the technical work, including close collaboration with and oversight of external Engineers of Record.
• Collaborate with teams for process improvement opportunities, and system integration and controls.
• Support energy storage strategies through technical and market analysis.

Opportunity Overview:

Energy Storage Project Engineer based in Juno Beach, FL. This is an 11-months contract assignment (W-2). You will involve yourself with renewable energy battery augmentation projects, from conception through execution. You will have exposure to teams across the organization. You have the critical responsibility of planning, designing, and implementing multiple energy storage augmentation projects. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope, engineering oversight and consulting across teams to deliver product.

You will use data from multiple internal and external sources to perform technical due diligence and propose storage and hybrid solutions to support their customers\' evolving needs. As a support function, you will work collaboratively across the organization to support design, construction and commissioning.

Your Day-to-Day:

• Perform detailed design engineering of electrical, structural and civil aspects of utility-scale energy storage augmentation projects
• Manage multiple concurrent high-volume battery augmentation projects from conception through execution, working with external Engineers of Record, Project Managers and permitting, procurement, interconnection and construction teams
• Support projects from conception through execution, working with early-stage and construction project managers
• Influence project teams in the engineering aspects of the technical work, including close collaboration with and oversight of external Engineers of Record
• Maintain familiarity with the progress and problems in assigned technical areas
• Influence project teams in the engineering aspects of the technical work
• Collaborate with teams for process improvement opportunities, and system integration and controls
• Support energy storage strategies through technical and market analysis
• Identify value engineering opportunities and latest technologies prospects

Who You Are:

• An Subject Matter Expert in substation or utility scale energy storage design and project management, with established expertise in the following areas:
  • Battery storage system design
• Design and operation of large-scale power generation or processing plants involving adherence to regulatory requirements while maximizing the performance and reliability of technically complex systems
• Hands-on experience of construction methods, including foundations, trenching, electrical terminations and testing, and best safety practices
• Knowledge of technologies in energy storage including varying battery chemistries, power conversion units and DC-DC converters
• Lithium-ion battery storage safety: Familiarity with UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC, applicable IFC/IBC sections
• Familiarity with interconnection studies and GIA material modification adjustment (MMA) processes, in WECC and CAISO
• Construction permitting and contracting experience

Educational Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Mechanical engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program
• 11+ years of proven engineering experience
