Position Overview

Magnum Electric is seeking experienced Electrical Safety Subject Matter Experts / Energy Marshals to support our data center construction projects in Ellendale and Center, North Dakota.

These field positions provide technical electrical safety leadership throughout construction, testing, commissioning, and energization. You will work directly with electricians, supervisors, safety professionals, and commissioning teams to prevent electrical injuries and unintended energization.

We are looking for professionals who understand electrical systems, can verify that protective measures work in the field, and communicate effectively with the people performing the work. Successful candidates will combine sound technical judgment with an approachable leadership style and the confidence to stop unsafe work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide electrical safety oversight for temporary power, permanent electrical distribution, and equipment transitioning from construction into commissioning and operation.
  • Develop, review, and field-verify energy isolation plans using current one-line diagrams, equipment identification, and physical walkdowns. Identify normal, alternate, backfeed, and stored energy sources.
  • Coordinate lockout/tagout, group lockboxes, isolation records, contractor interfaces, and shift turnovers. Verify that affected personnel understand the equipment status and limits of each isolation.
  • Verify that qualified personnel establish electrically safe work conditions, including absence-of-voltage testing and temporary protective grounding where required.
  • Coordinate switching, testing, energization, re-energization, and equipment turnover with designated authorizing personnel. Perform electrical testing or switching only within verified qualifications and written authorization.
  • Review pre-task plans, job hazard analyses, electrical risk assessments, and energized electrical work requests. Confirm required controls and approvals before work proceeds.
  • Verify appropriate shock and arc-flash protection, PPE, insulated tools, test equipment, barricades, warning signs, and access controls.
  • Maintain clear communication of equipment status and electrical boundaries as site conditions and work scopes change.
  • Conduct field audits and coach workers and supervisors on electrical hazard recognition and safe work practices.
  • Exercise stop-work authority when critical controls are missing or ineffective. Verify corrective actions and coordinate restart through the designated site authorization process.
  • Support electrical incident and near-miss investigations, identify contributing conditions, and verify corrective actions through closure.
Required Qualifications
  • At least five years of relevant electrical construction, industrial electrical, electrical maintenance, or commissioning experience, including demonstrated responsibility for electrical safety and hazardous energy control.
  • Practical knowledge of NFPA 70E, applicable OSHA electrical requirements, lockout/tagout, shock and arc-flash hazards, and electrically safe work conditions.

  • Working knowledge of electrical distribution equipment and the hazards associated with low- and medium-voltage systems.
  • Documented electrical safety training and the ability to meet Magnum’s task‑specific electrical qualification and authorization requirements.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with crews, subcontractors, and project leadership while maintaining critical safety controls.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous Energy Marshal or electrical safety SME experience on data center or other mission‑critical construction projects.
  • Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP).
  • Journeyman or master electrician license, or relevant electrical technical education.
  • OSHA 30‑Hour Construction, OSHA 510, or OSHA 500 training.
  • CHST, CSP, or another relevant safety credential.
  • Experience with medium‑voltage switching and grounding, generators, UPS systems, batteries, and commissioning activities.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills.
