Job description

Energy Engineer / Project Developer – Data Center Optimization

Location: Remote with Travel (up to 30%)

Employment Type: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire

Industry: Energy Engineering | Design-Build | Mission Critical

The Opportunity

We are partnering with a rapidly growing Design-Build Energy Services firm at the forefront of sustainable infrastructure and energy optimization within the Data Center sector.

With a strong focus on modernizing existing mission-critical facilities, our client delivers innovative engineering solutions designed to improve energy efficiency, optimize mechanical infrastructure, and enhance operational performance.

This is an exciting opportunity for an Energy Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or Project Developer looking to take ownership of projects from initial site assessment through engineering analysis, financial modeling, and proposal development.

The position offers significant technical autonomy, direct client engagement, and exposure to complex Data Center environments. Previous Data Center experience is not essential, with relevant HVAC, mechanical systems, or energy engineering experience equally valued.

The role will initially be offered on a 6-month contract-to-hire basis, with a strong likelihood of transitioning into a permanent position as the team continues to expand.

The Role
  • Lead site assessments and energy audits within operational Data Centers, evaluating existing HVAC, mechanical, and building infrastructure to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Own front-end project development, translating technical findings into detailed scopes of work, engineering recommendations, and practical retrofit solutions.
  • Prepare project cost estimates, coordinate vendor and subcontractor pricing, and develop financial models covering ROI, payback periods, and lifecycle costs.
  • Produce and present technical proposals, engineering narratives, and supporting documentation directly to clients, helping guide projects from concept toward execution.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, and project delivery teams to improve development processes, standardize methodologies, and support successful project implementation.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Energy Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Proven years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC systems, Energy Engineering, Project Development, or a related building infrastructure discipline.
  • Strong understanding of commercial or industrial HVAC systems, mechanical infrastructure, and energy efficiency opportunities within existing facilities.
  • Not essential, but extra points for: PE, EIT, or CEM certification.
