Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, update, and present engineering reports related to TA projects across DOE/CMEI program offices.
  • Develop, update, and maintain project plans, SOPs, technical workflows, and documentation supporting TA delivery.
  • Provide independent technical project support ensuring engineering accuracy and compliance with DOE/CMEI guidance.
  • Analyze scientific and engineering data, identify trends, and perform quality-control checks to validate accuracy and consistency.
  • Support DOE in evaluating energy technologies, systems, and processes relevant to critical minerals, manufacturing innovation, energy efficiency, and next-generation energy systems.
  • Maintain transparency and adherence to federal advisory and assistance service requirements throughout all work products.

What You’ll Do…
Key Responsibilities & Expected Outcomes
  • Prepare, review, update, and present engineering reports related to Technical Assistance (TA) projects across DOE/CMEI program offices.
  • Develop, update, andmaintainproject plans, standard operating procedures, technical workflows, and documentation supporting TA delivery.
  • Provide independent technical project support, ensuring engineering accuracy, clarity, and compliance with DOE/CMEI guidance.
  • Analyze scientific and engineering data,identifytrends, and perform quality‑control checks tovalidateaccuracy and consistency.
  • Support DOE in evaluating energy technologies, systems, and processes relevant to critical minerals, manufacturing innovation, energy efficiency, and next‑generation energy systems.
  • Maintain transparency and adherence to federal advisory andassistanceservice requirements throughout all engineering work products.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities for Success
  • Strong engineering foundation withdemonstratedability to independently perform energy‑related technical tasks.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, andvalidatescientific data and engineering information.
  • Excellent technical writing skills for producing clear,accuratereports and documentation.
  • Proficiencywith Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn DOE systems such as STRIPES, FAST, PAGE, and PMC.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:
  • BA/BS or MA/MS degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licenserequired.
  • Experience:
  • 3 to 10 years of relevant energy or environmental engineering experience.
  • Performs all functional duties independently in support of DOE programs and Technical Assistance work.
  • Clearance:Ability to obtain and/ormaintaina federal clearance up to Top Secret/DOE Q clearance levels.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience:
  • Experience supporting DOE programs, especially in applied energy, critical minerals, manufacturing or energy efficiency.
  • Expertisein evaluating energy systems, engineering processes, materials science, or emerging technologies aligned with CMEI initiatives.
  • Knowledge of IIJA‑funded programs and familiarity with federal TA structures supporting states, Tribes, local governments, and other entities.
  • Experience conducting engineering modeling, energy system assessments, or environmental impact analyses.
  • Understanding of standards, certifications, or technical frameworks used by DOE’s Office of Innovation, Affordability, and Consumer Choice.
  • Experience generating engineering documentation for federal programs, including SOPs, technical plans, or QA/QC frameworks.
Work Environment
  • Environment:Work will be performed in aclimate-controlledoffice, remotely or possibly on client sites as needed.
