How You’ll Make an Impact

This Passionate Energy Engineer will analyze building performance for a diverse portfolio that includes commercial, higher education, multifamily, historical, cultural and science/technology projects. They will use their technical competence in building science and HVAC to pragmatically strategize for increased efficiency, reduced consumption, and advance decarbonization initiatives.

The Work You’ll Own
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and conduct thorough building energy audits, both preliminary or detailed, as well as systems optimization or any other kind of study required by laws or regulations. Perform ASHRAE Level I and II Energy Audits, LL87 Energy Audits, and retro‑commissioning standards.
  • Support analysis of greenhouse gas emissions, carbon accounting, and the formulation of strategies concerning sustainability and emissions reduction (GHG Emissions calculations LL97, Climate action plans, and decarbonization plans).
  • Conduct site assessments of mechanical, electrical, and building infrastructure to identify potential for efficiency enhancement and low‑carbon opportunity gains (ECM’s and DCMS).
  • Develop and test energy performance models for single or groups of buildings utilizing industry tools and sophisticated spreadsheet analysis.
  • Creating integrated energy and emission reduction strategies based on utility data and system characteristics.
  • Use engineering judgment to analyze, quantify, and prioritize efforts on efficiency and decarbonization.
  • Undertake technical & financial viability assessments, calculate savings, explore possible incentives, and provide assistance in cost‑benefit analyses.
  • Undertake system verification through test commissioning to establish compliance with the various energy and emissions standards.
  • Develop reports that present a clear, well‑structured description of audit results, compliance, and recommendations for sustainability planning.
  • Present results and recommendations to a variety of groups, such as ownership, facilities, and property management.
  • Train young engineers and interns on analysis of approaches, site investigations, and data gathering.
  • Aid and collaborate with senior engineers on multiple and concurrent projects of energy and sustainability.
Bonus Points If You Bring
  • Hands‑on involvement in evaluating and optimizing building systems through commissioning or performance tuning activities.
  • Practical experience using building energy simulation tools, such as DesignBuilder or comparable software.
  • Working knowledge of how energy models are developed, calibrated, and applied to assess building performance.
  • General familiarity with industry efficiency and performance standards, including ASHRAE 90.1.
  • Progress toward, or completion of, a professional energy or sustainability credential such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or a comparable certification.
