Resource Innovations is on the lookout for an Energy Efficiency Project Engineer to enhance our dynamic team in Chicago, IL. We invite a highly talented and enthusiastic Project Engineer with a robust engineering background and a fervor for energy efficiency to join us. In this role, you will collaborate with customers to roll out energy-saving initiatives—think lighting upgrades, HVAC improvements, advanced refrigeration, compressed air, and process equipment systems. Your mission will be to quantify and articulate project savings, assist with project execution, and confirm successful installations. This position is crucial to our efforts in advancing energy efficiency programs across Northern Illinois.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support energy efficiency program design activities related to expansion of existing programs and development of new programs
  • Identifying and quantifying energy efficiency measures
  • Assist contractors and customers to select appropriate energy efficiency equipment that would qualify for equipment rebates from the utility
  • Maintain the highest level of quality control for deliverables, demonstrating technical excellence, objectivity, and clarity while maintaining and advancing projects
  • Mentor and train junior engineers on various energy efficiency fundamentals and technologies
  • Establish and maintain a professional client rapport, including identifying and anticipating client needs and proposing solutions.
  • Conduct site visits to verify installation and operation of replacement energy efficient equipment
  • Support measurement and verification tasks including the installations of field monitoring equipment to establish energy usage patterns
  • Solicit feedback, advocate change, and implement solutions
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering )
  • 2-5 years of experience within the energy efficiency or building efficiency industry
  • A strong understanding of electric energy using systems of commercial and industrial facilities including equipment controls and optimization and/or sustainability practices
  • Experience calculating energy savings for commercial HVAC and/or industrial process energy efficiency improvements
  • Interest in sustainability and passionate about making a meaningful impact on the environment.

skills, education and experience

  • Familiarity with relevant energy efficiency codes and standards (e.g. ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, Code of Federal Regulations etc.)
  • Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license and have a personal vehicle to visit customer sites
  • P.E., C.E.M., and/or LEED AP BD+C certification (or on track to receive) is highly desirable
  • Experience in the following areas is a plus:
    • Design and specification of HVAC, electrical, or building automation/controls
    • Building and energy modeling/simulation tools (e.g. eQUEST, EnergyPro)
  • Industrial systems such as compressed air, refrigeration, process cooling

The compensation range for this exempt position is $74 ,448 - $126,566. The stated range is based on a good faith estimate of the compensation range for the duties, responsibilities and skills / experience required for the position. Starting pay will be dependent on experience and internal equity. This range may be exceeded for well-qualified candidates, especially with industry experience.

Employment with Resource Innovations is contingent upon the successful completion of a comprehensive background check and reference check. If applicable to the position, a pre-employment drug screen may also be required.
