Job summary

Appalachian Power Company is seeking a full-time, paid Communications & Marketing intern for its Roanoke, Virginia office for Summer 2027. You will work with seasoned professionals to create engaging content and support business strategy across internal, external, and marketing communications.

You'll tackle projects from news releases to social media and web copy, collaborating with the Creative Services team to produce ads, videos, and posters.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in journalism, business, marketing, advertising, communications, public relations or related field.
• Must have completed at least your freshman year.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Strong writing and organizational skills, attention to detail.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; Canva and Adobe programs a plus.
• Familiarity with AP Style.

Responsibilities

• Write news releases and talking points for external stakeholders; support executive communications.
• Create content for social media.
• Draft web copy for corporate and operating company sites.
• Write headlines, ad copy, scripts; collaborate with Creative Services on ads and posters.
• Assist with corporate events and special projects.
