Job summary

Tenaska in Irving, TX is seeking an Energy Accountant to perform monthly financial accounting and invoicing, prepare reports for management, and handle billing inquiries from customers.

The role emphasizes accuracy, strong Excel skills, and the ability to work with cross‑functional teams to improve processes and maintain timely payments. Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance is required; Master’s or CPA preferred; 0–2 years experience; energy industry experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, reviews, and distributes monthly customer invoices and reports.
• Communicates with customers to ensure timely payments and issue resolution.
• Interacts with employees and management on accounting procedures and processes.
• Prepares journal entries and supporting schedules.
• Completes account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
• Prepares and updates management reports in spreadsheets.
• Participates in process improvement and system enhancement projects.
• Develops knowledge base for wholesale electricity market and trading activities.

Position Summary:

The Energy Accountant is responsible for performing monthly financial accounting and invoicing tasks, preparing reports and analyses for management, and communicating with customers for billing and payment inquiries and resolving customer issues.

Essential Job Functions:

• Prepares, reviews, and distributes monthly customer invoices and reports
• Effectively communicates with customers to ensure timely payments and issue resolution.
• Converses with employees and management at all levels on issues related to accounting procedures and processes.
• Prepares assigned journal entries and associated supporting schedules
• Completes assigned account reconciliations and associated supporting schedules
• Prepares and updates various management reports, typically in spreadsheets
• Actively participates on department and company process improvement and system enhancement projects
• Energetically works to develop a knowledge base for the wholesale electricity market and TPS’ energy trading and energy management business.
• Dependable, reliable, and predictable attendance is required

Education/Experience/Skills

Basic Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Master’s Degree and/or CPA preferred
• Zero to two (0-2) years of Accounting experience
• Power industry experience preferred
• Experience utilizing Microsoft Office products, especially Excel
• Strong work ethic, team attitude, and willingness to work extended hours as workload requires
