Under the direction of the Assistant Manager of Emerging Technologies, the Endpoint Systems Engineer I is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of endpoint systems, software deployment, and lifecycle support of desktop and mobile computing environments. This role focuses on maintaining a secure, consistent, and efficient endpoint environment through modern management tools and engineering best practices.
The Endpoint Systems Engineer must be proficient in documenting repeatable processes and supporting enterprise endpoint solutions, including operating systems, device configuration, software distribution, and troubleshooting across Windows, iOS, and ChromeOS platforms.
A combination of education and experience may be considered. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. An equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, and relevant experience may be considered. Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience administering enterprise endpoint management solutions, including device deployment, configuration, software distribution, patch management, and/or lifecycle management in a complex technology environment.

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, and relevant experience may be considered.
Certification/Licensure: Priority will be given to applicants who: Experience with Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Active Directory, Google Admin Console, Windows Autopilot, Apple Business Manager, and ITSM platforms. Technical certifications related to endpoint management or Microsoft technologies are preferred.
Knowledge Endpoint Management Platforms: Deep understanding of modern Cloud and Hybrid Mobile Device Management (MDM) / Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) systems, specifically Microsoft Intune and Google Admin Console.
Operating Systems & Mobile Architectures: In-depth technical knowledge of Windows, ChromeOS, and iOS operating system structures, deployment methods, registry/settings management, and troubleshooting frameworks.
Provisioning & Deployment Methodologies: Comprehensive grasp of modern zero-touch deployment protocols (e.g., Windows Autopilot, Apple Business Manager/DEP, Chrome OS Zero-Touch Enrollment) alongside traditional imaging and pre-production testing frameworks.
Patch Management & Cybersecurity: Solid understanding of endpoint security baselines, vulnerability remediation, patch lifecycle management, and IT compliance standards.
IT Service Management (ITSM) Frameworks: Familiarity with ITIL best practices, service desk ticketing workflows, asset management, and SLA compliance metrics.
Skills Endpoint Configuration & Profiling: Advanced skill in designing, building, deploying, and maintaining standard OS configurations, configuration profiles, compliance policies, and app deployment packages.
Troubleshooting & Remediation: Expert diagnostic skills to investigate, analyze, and resolve complex OS, mobile device, application, and network connectivity issues.
Process & Technical Documentation: Ability to draft clear, repeatable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), technical guides, and execution checklists for endpoint workflows.
Software Testing & Evaluation: Practical skill in evaluating pre-production software, OS updates, and images in isolated test environments to assess stability and impact prior to broad rollout.
IT Asset & License Management: Proficient in maintaining accurate hardware inventory, tracking software license allocation, and utilizing ITSM systems to monitor service performance.
Abilities Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and work effectively with internal teams, department leads, contractors, and external vendors to resolve issues.
Adaptability & Continuous Learning: Ability to keep pace with rapid technological shifts, emerging trends, security updates, and evolving operational requirements.
Prioritization & SLA Execution: Ability to prioritize incoming service requests effectively, manage time efficiently, and meet strict Service Level Agreements under changing workloads.
Analytical Thinking: Strong capability to isolate root causes, evaluate potential system impacts, and formulate effective, long-term technical strategies.
Operational Readiness: Ability to step in seamlessly as cross-functional backup support across various IT roles and service desk priorities when needed.
Working Hours
The duty day for this position is 8 hours including a one hour duty-free lunch.

Compensation This is a 12-month per year position in the Howard County Education Association, Educational Support Professionals (HCEA-ESP) employee unit. The current salary range for this position is Grade 25 on the Technical Central Office and School Based salary scale, $89,026 - $141,202. Step placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Howard County Public School System and the HCEA-ESP Master Agreement which considers relevant prior experience. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, this position is exempt from overtime.
Retirement Membership in the Maryland State Retirement Agency (MSRA) pension plan is a mandatory condition of employment for all employees who meet the eligibility and membership criteria defined in the State Personnel and Pensions Article and the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR). A qualifying employee cannot reject membership, nor can an ineligible employee elect membership. The annual contribution to the pension plan will be 7% of an employee’s annual salary.
