George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, seeks an eminent scholar to hold the Yu Yuen Kit (YYK) Associate or Full Professor of Physics. The appointee will lead an externally funded research program in theoretical and/or computational quantum science, train graduate students, and teach at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree/PhD in Physics or a related field.
• Experience in quantum physics including, but not limited to, quantum information science, quantum devices, quantum materials, and quantum sensing.
• Rank of Associate Professor (or equivalent) or higher; tenure track or tenured.
• Success in securing external research funding.
• Strong record of scholarly production.
• Knowledge of theoretical and/or computational quantum science with international recognition.
• Knowledge of the physics curriculum to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Knowledge of federal and non-federal research funding mechanisms, including center-level and multi-investigator programs.
• Skill in preparing competitive research proposals to federal agencies and other sponsors.
• Skill in mentoring and supervising graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.
• Skill in scientific writing, oral presentation, and classroom instruction.
• Ability to establish and maintain externally funded research collaborations across departments.
• Ability to launch new research directions complementing existing expertise.
• A record of research, teaching, and service supporting appointment at associate professor or professor with tenure.
• Standing as an eminent scholar in physics with honors, fellowships, editorial or advisory roles.

Responsabilités

• Develop and maintain an active, externally funded research program.
• Publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and present at professional conferences.
• Supervise research staff, graduate students and/or postdoctoral fellows.
• Contribute to interdisciplinary research initiatives within the department and university.
• Teach up to two courses per year at undergraduate and/or graduate levels; advise and mentor students.
