Days

General Summary

Performs a variety of functions relating to the cleaning and maintenance of endoscopy equipment. Supports and maintains recommended and departmental standards/practices for processing, decontamination, disinfection, and inspection of all flexible endoscopes and related GI equipment. Learns the anatomy and mechanical operation of the various scopes used in the department. Troubleshoots and performs preventative functionality inspections on endoscopy scopes after each HLD cycle. Orders supplies for the equipment cleaning area as directed. Serve on-call as required and rotates shifts to meet the staffing needs of the department.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains an accurate updated record of all endoscopes, inclusive of a daily inventory, repair records, etc.
  • Troubleshoots and performs preventative maintenance inspections regarding proper functioning of endoscopes. Reports any issues regarding scope functioning in a timely manner to CSP Leadership and senior staff. Initiates scope repair process as appropriate.
  • Schedules and arranges for repair of scopes with outside vendors (major repairs) or Biomedical Engineering (minor repairs) as required.
  • Cleans endoscopes and accessories. Handles all equipment in gentle and respectful manner.
  • Competent in knowing the scopes, anatomy and mechanical functions.
  • Competent in operating all levels of high disinfection of equipment.
  • Properly stores endoscopes and cleaning equipment after each use.
  • Coordinates with Central Sterile Supply Services in the cleaning of special equipment after routine departmental hours.
  • Ensures the availability of scopes as needed for procedure schedule (EUS, loaner scopes, etc.).
  • Educated on current specifications and best practice/EBP recommendations for scope processing. Self-directed in being up to date on latest HLD/endoscope cleaning recommendations.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
  • Resource to staff regarding all aspects of HLD and scope cleaning / disinfection.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:

  • Less than 1 year Relevant experience. Required
  • Healthcare environment. Preferred

Licenses:

  • Certified Endoscope Reprocessor within 1 year Required or
  • Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor within 1 year Required

Courses and Training:

  • 3-6 months OJT in the use of GI equipment. Upon Hire Required
