Job summary

Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL is seeking an Endoscopy Technician II to support patient care in the GI procedure room. You will assist physicians during colonoscopies and upper endoscopies and help with equipment and supplies, under supervision.

You will also contribute in recovery and endoscope reprocessing areas, maintaining high standards of disinfection and safety in a dynamic clinical environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Endoscopy Technician I experience or two years direct patient care.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with electronic applications.
  • Completion of CNA/EMT/Phlebotomy or equivalent health-care training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform delegated patient care activities in the GI procedure room under supervision.
  • Assist with colonoscopies and upper endoscopies and with related equipment.
  • Maintain competency in endoscope reprocessing and high-level disinfection; support recovery and reprocessing areas.

Responsibilities

The Endoscopy Technician II is responsible for performing delegated activities related to patient care and overall team support in the GI procedure room setting. Under the supervision of a physician or nurse, will assist with direct patient care during procedures and assist the physicians with necessary equipment used during colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, as well as other ancillary procedures performed in the Mayo Clinic endoscopy procedural areas. Is responsible for multiple patient care roles and duties outside of the procedure room including recovery room, and endoscope reprocessing rooms. Sites with the Endoscopy Technician I position are also responsible for maintaining competency in current endoscope reprocessing and high-level disinfecting. Is expected to perform in a dynamic and changing environment with changes in daily assignments at short notice. Patient care and teamwork is the priority. Must be able to function independently and possess equipment troubleshooting skills in the procedural area, as well as following established procedure guidelines. Commitment to Endoscopy is required.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Minimum one year Endoscopy Technician I experience or two years direct patient care experience.Knowledge of or experience with electronic applications. Knowledge in surgical or central service functions, including high-level disinfection process and intravenous catheterization, phlebotomy and/or GI endoscopy equipment and procedures. Endoscopy Technician I experience as needed. Successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant program, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program, Phlebotomy Technician program or equivalent health care experience. Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to follow written and verbal directions and multi-tasking. Ability to work independently and/or in a team setting. Experience performing multiple tasks within a work shift. Works flexible hours to meet the demands of the work unit. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Excellent communication skills.

License and Certification

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required within 60 days of hire. Maintains BCLS competency.
