Job summary

The Endoscopy Technician is a member of the Ambulatory Surgical Team at University of Vermont Health, supporting instrument handling, supplies, and room turnover for ambulatory GI procedures. You will assist circulating with an Ambulatory Surgery RN, and may float between Main Campus and ASC as needed to maintain efficient patient care.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, surgical technology OR certification, and completion of SGNA online training within six months, with BLS

• High school diploma or GED.
• Graduate of a surgical technology program with OR certification obtained within 12 months of hire.
• Must complete SGNA associates program online within 6 months of hire.
• Meets requirements of pre-employment screening and physical.
• AHA-BLS is required within 6 months of hire or a current non-BLS card honored until renewal.
• Ability to anticipate, prioritize, perform, and complete multiple job responsibilities in a timely manner.
• Ability to work independently under stressful conditions.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Basic computer knowledge and familiarity with PC operation.
• Proof of 15 hours of continuing education yearly.

Responsibilities

• Act as primary scrub person handling instruments, supplies and equipment for endoscopic/radiologic procedures.
• Assist with circulating duties under the direct supervision of an Ambulatory Surgery RN.
• Assist with room turnover and preparation for subsequent cases.
• Assist with a variety of therapeutic and diagnostic interventions.
• Participate in preoperative and postoperative care under RN supervision.
• Clean, stock, and organize the procedure room and all support areas.
• Take call for GI Endoscopy Services and float between Main Campus and ASC operating rooms as needed.

Job description

General Summary

The Endoscopy Technician is a member of the Ambulatory Surgical Team and performs a variety of duties, as directed, for the direct and indirect care of patients undergoing ambulatory surgical procedures. They is responsible to provide support and assistance to the medical and nursing staff to assure a coordinated patient experience. Duties may include, but are not limited to primary scrub person handling instruments, supplies and equipment necessary before, during and after a endoscopic/radiologic procedure, assisting with circulating duties under the direct supervision of an Ambulatory Surgery RN, assisting with room turnover, assisting with a variety of therapeutic and diagnostic interventions, participating in the preoperative and post operative care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, and cleaning, stocking, and organizing the procedure room and all support areas. They must be reliable, work independently, be highly organized, capable of anticipating where assistance is needed and work well with people. They must meet the unique demands of a fast paced, competitive outpatient surgery environment meeting quality outcomes in an economically viable and customer friendly way. The Endoscopy Technician will take call for GI Endoscopy Services. They will be competent in the basic skills of an OR Technician to be able to float between Main Campus and ASC operating rooms as needed.

• Graduate of a surgical technology school with OR certification obtained within 12 months of hire.

• AHA-BLS is required within 6 months of hire or a current non-BLS card will be honored up to date of renewal.
• Ability to anticipate, prioritize, perform, and complete multiple job responsibilities in a timely manner.
