Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking an Endoscopy Support Tech to inventory supplies, reprocess instrumentation, and assist with setup in Endoscopy and adjacent areas. The role requires strong communication, basic computer skills, and Safe patient handling.

The position is non-exempt with on-call requirements and a 40-hour week; a signing bonus may be available and discussed during interview.

Qualifications

• Must have at least 2 years of healthcare patient care support with some direct patient care
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to lift patients and move heavy objects
• Basic computer usage knowledge
• Clear written and spoken English communication with patients and staff
• Typing skills and basic medical terminology
• Well organized with high manual dexterity
• Endoscopy unit experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Inventory supplies in designated area and order per PAR levels
• Reprocess Endoscopy instrumentation in CSR and pick up sterile equipment
• Reprocess endoscopes and document cycle results
• Operate equipment per scheduled cases
• Set up equipment in areas outside Endoscopy (SCU, OR, ED)

Scheduled Hours: Shifts vary between a 7 - 9 am start and 3:30 - 5:30 pm end

Major Responsibilities

1. 1. Inventory supplies in each designated area and order supplies according to PAR levels, including an end of the day review and inventory.
2. 2. Reprocess Endoscopy instrumentation in CSR and pick up sterile equipment.
3. 3. Reprocess endoscopes using the scope washer and document cycle results.
4. 4. Applies knowledge of procedures by using and operating the correct equipment on a daily basis based on scheduled cases.
5. 5. Sets up equipment in areas outside Endoscopy (i.e. SCU, OR, ED).

Position Qualifications

License/Certification/Education: Required:

• 1. BLS Certification required
• 2. SGNA certification required within one year of date of hire or eight years of endoscopy experience.
• 3. High School Graduate
• 4. Coursework in Medical Terminology / Health Care-related education required

Preferred:

• 1. EMT or Critical Care Tech Preferred
• 2. Associates Degree in health care field preferred

Experience/Skills: Required:

• 1. Must have at least 2 years of experience working in a health care patient care support position with some direct patient care / clinical responsibilities
• 2. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• 3. Ability to lift patients; move heavy objects by pushing or pulling
• 4. Knowledge of basic computer usage
• 5. Demonstrated ability to read, write and converse in clear and concise English and to communicate effectively with patients, staff and families, both verbally and in writing
• 6. Normal clerical dexterity.
• 7. Typing skills and basic medical terminology
• 8. Well organized and possess high degree of Manual Dexterity
• 9. Excellent verbal communication skills OR equivalent combination of the above

Preferred:

• 1. Previous Endoscopy Unit experience preferred
