Job summary

McLaren Port Huron is seeking an Endoscopy Technician to assist medical staff during procedures and ensure rooms and instruments are prepared and sterile. You will clean and stock rooms, assist with specimens, and support the team with administrative tasks while maintaining HIPAA/OSHA compliance.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, BLS certification, and at least 3 months of clinical experience in an ancillary department. On-site full-time schedule with variable hours is available.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) months of clinical experience and/or training in an ancillary department.
  • BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures endoscopy rooms are clean, sterile and stocked prior to procedures.
  • Maintains inventories of endoscopic equipment and supplies.
  • Performs safety checks to verify proper equipment functioning.
  • Prepares suites or rooms according to procedure requirements.
  • Disinfects and calibrates scopes per manufacturer and facility standards.
  • Positions or transports patients as directed.
  • Sets up, scrubs and supports the team during procedures including collecting specimens.
  • Performs clerical duties and supports administrative staff as needed.
  • Delivers compassionate patient and family support.
  • Ensures HIPAA and OSHA compliance.
  • Maintains safe, clean environment and infection-control policies.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Job description

Position Summary

Assists medical and nursing staff during endoscopy procedures. Responsible for ensuring cleanliness of the endoscopy rooms and that they are fully prepared. Prepares and maintains instruments and equipment; may obtain specimens.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Ensures that endoscopy rooms are clean, sterile and stocked prior to procedures, including sterilizing surgical instruments.
  • Maintains inventories of endoscopic equipment and supplies.
  • Performs safety checks to verify proper equipment functioning; maintains or repairs endoscopic equipment.
  • Prepares suites or rooms according to endoscopic procedure requirements.
  • Cleans, disinfects, or calibrates scopes or other endoscopic instruments according to manufacturer recommendations and facility standards.
  • Positions or transports patients in accordance with instructions from medical personnel.
  • Sets up, scrubs and supports members of the team during endoscopic procedures including collecting specimens from patients using standard medical procedures.
  • Performs clerical duties such as ordering supplies, maintaining logs, pulling up and/or entering patient information, doing inventory and supporting the administrative and clerical staff as needed.
  • Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
  • Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection‑control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
  • Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) months of clinical experience and/or training in an ancillary department.
  • BLS certification.
Preferred
  • Endoscopy Technician Certification by the SGNA‑Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates.
  • One (1) year of experience in a comparable medical setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • A basic understanding of patient care, medical terminology, anatomy, surgical techniques and equipment, coding procedures for endoscopy technician practice scope.
  • Knowledge of patient care techniques and the principles of sterile techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical health care record systems.
  • Ability to handle multiple requests and prioritize appropriately.
  • Ability to work in stressful situations.
