Job summary

Central Maine Medical Center, part of Prime Healthcare Foundation, seeks an Endoscopy Technician to support GI procedures and ensure sterile processing and equipment readiness. You will scrub for physicians, assist in biopsies and advanced techniques, and manage specimen labeling and handling.

The role requires adherence to SGNA, JCAHO, and CDC guidelines, with responsibilities including safe transport and maintenance of reusable equipment. Part-time, day shifts, competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent.
• Surgical Technology certificates preferred.
• Courses in anatomy/physiology and basic chemistry at college level preferred.
• One year of Operating room experience preferred.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Scrub assistant to physician during invasive endoscopy procedures.
• Perform GI procedures including biopsy, APC, Barrx, dilation, specimen handling.
• Ensure safe transport, handling, disinfection and maintenance of endoscopes and reprocessing devices.
• Verify readiness of supplies and equipment before patient enters GI Suite.

Responsibilities

The Endoscopy Technician is directly responsible to the GI physician, Endoscopy RN, Surgeon, or the RN/Supervisor of the area that the Endoscopy is being performed (ie, ER, ICU/CCU, OR). The Endoscopy Technician works as a scrub assistant to the physician during all invasive endoscopy procedures. They perform all GI procedures including, but not limited to Biopsy, Argon Plasma Coagulation (APC), Barrx, Dilation, Specimen acquisition, Labeling and handling, and Peg Tube placement. All at the direction of the GI Physician, Surgeon, or RN. The Endoscopy Technician is also responsible for insuring safe transportation, handling, disinfection, sterilization and maintenance of the Flexible Endoscopes, and the Automated Reprocessing devices. This is an ongoing process of education and updating current practices following the manufacturer’s suggested guidelines, and recommendations of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA), JCAHO, and the Centers of Disease Control (CDC). The Endoscopy Technician confirms GI suite procedure is as scheduled, availability, readiness and completeness of needed supplies instruments and equipment before patient enters GI Suite. They confirm integrity and appropriate preparation of all sterile items before opening and again while preparing aseptic/ sterile field.

Qualifications

• 3. Courses in anatomy/physiology and basic chemistry at college level preferred.
• 4. One year of Operating room experience preferred.
• 5. BLS certification required.

Pay Transparency

Central Maine Medical Center offers competitive compensation and a reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $21.63 to $31.33 per hour. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
