Job summary

Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC is seeking an Endoscopy Technician to assist during procedures, prepare rooms, and maintain equipment with strict adherence to policy. The role requires attention to infection control, patient safety, and teamwork in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; graduate of an endoscopy training program or HUH training if available.
• Completion of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurse & Associates Program within one year of hire.
• One year experience as endoscopy technician in acute care or Endoscopy Lab preferred.
• Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant in the District of Columbia required.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certificate.

Responsibilities

• Assist endoscopists during procedures and interact with staff, patients and families in a professional manner.
• Clean, disinfect, and store endoscopes; sanitize carts, sinks and rooms after each procedure.
• Assist in supply inventory and restock equipment as needed.
• Observe pre- and post-procedure patient conditions and report changes.
• Set up Endoscopy rooms according to guidelines.
• Report equipment malfunctions and prepare items for shipping.
• Transport patients to/from Endoscopy and assist with bed setup.
• Orient and precept new Endoscopy Technicians.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement activities.
