Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Full-Time Endoscopy Technician for the Endoscopy Unit. The role supports GI, Pulmonology, and ENT services, assisting in complex procedures and maintaining high standards of infection control and patient safety.

The position features a Monday–Friday day schedule (0730–1700) with on-call weekday shifts and one weekend per month, reporting to the Endoscopy Supervisor. Prior endoscopy experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a procedural or surgical environment preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of endoscopic equipment and infection control procedures.
• Current BLS certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
• Flexible availability to meet scheduled and on-call responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare procedure rooms and equipment for scheduled and emergent endoscopic procedures.
• Assist physicians during endoscopic procedures by handling instruments, troubleshooting equipment, and ensuring patient safety.
• Ensure proper handling and transport of scopes post-procedure in accordance with infection control standards and DNV requirements.
• Stock and maintain procedure supplies and ensure readiness for all service lines (GI, Pulmonary, ENT).
• Participate in on-call rotation for emergent and urgent procedures.
• Provide support in managing complex cases, including interventional EUS, ERCP, bronchoscopies with navigational guidance, and ENT diagnostics.
• Communicate effectively with the nursing and physician team to ensure smooth procedural workflow.
