Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital is seeking an RN for the Endoscopy department to provide direct patient care and coordinate post-procedure care. The role involves assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation within standard nursing guidelines, with emphasis on patient and family education and safety.

The position requires nursing licensure and a willingness to participate in continuing education and quality initiatives within a fast-paced endoscopy unit.

Qualifications

• RN licensure nursing license required.
• Experience: less than 2 years preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
• Educates patients and their families on illness management and home care needs; medication administration.
• Participates in safety, quality and regulatory compliance activities and professional development.
• Develops and documents care plans with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team and patient/family.
• Assesses patient needs including physical, psychosocial, emotional, spiritual and cultural factors.

Overview

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.

The Endoscopy department at Barnes Jewish West County Hospital is a highly specialized, full-service department meeting the needs of inpatient and outpatient clients. The lab specializes in Upper Endoscopy (EGD), Esophagoscopy, Colonoscopy, Flexible sigmoidoscopy, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), ERCP, Bronchoscopy, EBUS, Small bowel enteroscopy (SBE), and Video capsule endoscopy. The endoscopy staff consists of a NP, RN¿s and technicians who are overseen by an Endoscopy Supervisor.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.

Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.

Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.

Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
