Job description

Description

Section 1: Position Summary

The General Practitioner is an experienced, independently operating dental provider who owns a patient panel and delivers comprehensive general dentistry with full clinical autonomy. This role serves patients, the practice team, and organizational leadership by providing high-quality care across the complete scope of general dentistry, from routine preventive services to complex restorative cases, without requiring oversight or direction from a lead provider. The core purpose is to independently drive clinical excellence and practice production, build a loyal patient base, and serve as a trusted clinical contributor who strengthens the quality and capacity of the practice.

Section 2: Core Responsibilities
GP: Fully autonomous clinical provider; owns patient panel and independently executes comprehensive general dentistry.
Clinical Excellence & Independent Practice

Provide independent, comprehensive dental care across the full scope of general dentistry including complex restorative, endodontic, surgical, prosthodontic, and preventive procedures.

Diagnose conditions, develop evidence-based treatment plans, and present recommendations to patients with confidence and clarity that support strong case acceptance.

Exercise independent clinical judgment on complex cases, including decisions on referral, treatment sequencing, and risk management.

Collaborate with the hygiene team to ensure periodontal findings are addressed, reinforced, and incorporated into comprehensive treatment planning.

Maintain full compliance with infection control, OSHA, HIPAA, and all applicable regulatory and documentation standards.

Maintain budgetary awareness of treatment recommendations, material usage, lab fees, and overhead to support productive and cost-effective clinical operations.

Patient Relationships & Practice Growth

Manage a productive and growing patient panel, building long-term relationships that drive retention, referrals, and recare compliance.

Partner with the Office Manager and practice leadership to align clinical performance with production, schedule utilization, and patient experience goals.

Stay current through continuing education, maintaining and expanding clinical skills in areas that serve the patient population and practice growth.

Team Contribution & Clinical Leadership

Mentor and support Associate Dentists and clinical team members through case guidance, clinical feedback, and knowledge sharing.

Participate in quality assurance processes, peer review, and clinical protocol development as a senior clinical voice in the practice.

Supervisory Responsibility

The General Practitioner provides clinical direction to the care team, including dental assistants, hygienists, and support staff, in all matters related to patient care, procedural standards, and clinical expectations. This role sets the clinical tone in the operatory and holds team members to a high standard of chairside performance and patient care. When clinical concerns require follow-up beyond the operatory, this role partners with the Office Manager to ensure appropriate action is taken.

Section 3: Education & Qualifications
Required Experience
  • 3+ years of independent clinical practice with demonstrated proficiency across the full scope of general dentistry.
  • Established track record of strong production, case acceptance, and patient retention as an autonomous provider.
  • Ability to manage complex restorative, surgical, and multi-phase treatment cases without supervision.
Required Education
  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from an accredited dental school.
Required Licensure & Certifications
  • Active, unrestricted dental license in the state of practice.
  • Current DEA registration and CPR/BLS certification.
  • All continuing education requirements current per state dental board standards.
Preferred:
  • Experience in a group practice, DSO, or multi-provider environment.
  • Advanced training in implants, full-arch restoration, cosmetic dentistry, or oral surgery.
  • Familiarity with Dentrix or dental practice management software.
  • Interest in clinical mentorship and contributing to organizational quality standards.
Section 4: Specialty Modifier

Not applicable for this role. This position operates within the full scope of general dentistry. Expanded or specialty procedures may be performed based on individual licensure, training, and demonstrated competency.

Section 5: Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Work is performed in a dental office environment. This role requires prolonged periods of operatory positioning, fine motor precision, PPE compliance, and direct exposure to clinical environments. Must be able to stand, sit, and maneuver in confined clinical spaces for extended periods. Exposure to radiographic equipment, biological materials, and chemical agents is routine. Standard infection control protocols are required at all times.
