Job summary

Milliken and Company is seeking student co-ops for Encapsys Engineering Services in Portage, WI for May–December 2027. This paid co-op targets Chemical or Mechanical Engineering students and includes a housing allowance and company holidays.

Co-ops work on both collaborative and independent projects, guided by a mentor to develop engineering skills and contribute to real-world solutions. Expected 40–50 hours weekly with occasional extra days.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with GPA >= 3.00.
• Self-motivated, able to work independently and in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
• Interact effectively with customers, management and production personnel.
• Willing to work 40–50 hours per week; some late days or weekends.

Responsibilities

• Involvement in day-to-day operations as a project engineer at a world-class encapsulation plant.
• Develop engineering designs to solve real-world problems.
• Develop project technical requirements, schedules and estimates.
• Drive reviews with cross-functional teams to address project concerns.
• Support other engineers in project activities.
• Produce written summary reports and presentations.
• Work 40–50 hours per week, with occasional extended days or weekends.

Milliken & Company ( www.milliken.com ) is looking to hire student co-ops for the 2027 calendar year at its world-class encapsulation plant located in Portage, Wisconsin. This is a competitively paidco-op position that is being offered to students in a Chemical Engineering or a Mechanical Engineering program. Co-ops are also offered a special benefits package which includes a housing allowance stipend and paid company holidays.

Encapsys a subsidiary of Milliken and Company operates in the specialty chemicals industry. Holding over 75 encapsulation patents, Encapsys is a leader in encapsulation technologies within three primary business segments – Fragrance, Phase change, and Growth. Encapsys operates highly scalable encapsulation processes that deliver superior products with batch size flexibility from drum to tanker sizes. The Milliken and Company co-op students comprise up to 20% of the technical workforce, therefore Milliken and Company provides projects with a high level of responsibility that have strong impacts on the bottom line. Co-ops will work on both collaborative and independent projects in conjunction with the engineer/scientist project leaders. Each co-op is assigned a mentor to provide guidance through the processes of training, developing, and contributing.

This co-op is May - December 2027.

Typical project engineering duties include:

• Involvement in the day-to-day operations of a world-class encapsulation plant as a project engineer
• Develop engineering design to solve real world problems
• Develop project technical requirements, schedules and estimates
• Drive reviews with cross functional teams to address concerns of each group in project implementation
• Support other engineers in project activities
• Producing written summary reports and presentations
• Working 40-50 hours per week, occasionally working some late days or weekends as project work requires

Education, experience, and qualifications:

• Educational background includes individuals earning their B.S. or M.S. with at least a 3.00 GPA in the following program: - Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
• Other supporting competencies include: - Self-motivated and driven for project completion - Work independently - Apply engineering and scientific principles to resolve problems and make improvements - Capable of operating in a flexible and dynamic manufacturing environment - Interact effectively with customers, management and production personnel - Work safely around manufacturing equipment
