Qualifications

  • Demonstrable previous experience as a Laboratory Technician is required.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO and ASTM specifications for asphalt emulsions.

Job description

Job Location

This position is located at the BCI Materials Emulsion Plant in Charlotte, NC.

Responsibilities
  1. Follow the directions and instructions of the Laboratory Manager and the Quality Control Manager.
  2. Conduct sampling in accordance with AASHTO R 66.
  3. Perform daily equipment verifications and calibrations as instructed by the Laboratory Manager.
  4. Test samples according to applicable specifications, QC Plan, and Quality Management System requirements.
  5. Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
  6. Accurately report test results on proper forms and complete all documentation (worksheets, logs, Certificate of Analysis, etc.).
  7. Dispose of waste materials properly after testing.
  8. Assist plant personnel during batch production to meet product quality control objectives (process control testing).
  9. Communicate batch test results and certifications to plant personnel.
  10. Support the Laboratory Manager in meeting compliance reporting deadlines as outlined in QC plans and the Quality Management System.
  11. Assist other technicians and employees as needed.
  12. Attend and complete required training (company, certification, etc.).
  13. Perform other activities as assigned by the laboratory manager.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: Demonstrable previous experience as a Laboratory Technician is required; this is not an entry-level position.

Skills: Working proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook; familiarity with AASHTO and ASTM specifications for asphalt emulsions and materials; understanding of statistical process control; ethical professional and behavioral standards.

Physical Demands

Constant physical effort, including standing and walking on uneven surfaces in varying weather conditions, is required during a typical work shift of at least eight hours.

Work Environment

Primarily indoor work, with periodic exposure to high noise levels, grease, and dust typical of a construction site.
