Nature and Scope

This position has contact with the staff of base hospitals, outlying hospitals, physicians, public service agencies (fire, police, highway patrol), ground ambulance personnel, patients and their families, and various service groups for public relations and educational purposes. The role requires determining medical and therapy based on patient assessment following established protocols; making safety decisions for patient and vehicle; deciding on equipment needs; triage priorities; and managing standard medical supplies. Management decisions outside policies, flight requests outside normal guidelines, ride‑alongs, equipment changes, and public relations coordination are referred to the supervisor.

Qualifications

Experience:

• Three (3) years of driving experience
• Able to accept direct paramedic supervision
• Self‑starter requiring little oversight with excellent written and verbal skills

Education:

• Current Nor Cal EMT‑Basic or higher certification
• Current Healthcare provider CPR certification
• California ambulance driver’s license
• O.T. medical examination certificate
• Current NREMT‑Basic certification
• Valid California or Nevada driver’s license

Responsibilities

The candidate will staff and ride in an ambulance or medical helicopter, performing under adverse conditions. Duties include wearing protective clothing, walking, stooping, climbing, twisting, bending, running, squatting, kneeling, and handling awkward patient movements. The role also involves lifting and transferring patients using equipment such as gurneys, scoop stretchers, backboards, stair chairs, wheelchairs, neonate isolets, and two‑person manual transfers.
