About

The Paramedic/PTN functions on an ambulance performing prehospital emergency responses and interfacility transports normally as the senior member of a two person care team. When paired with a EMT-B, the Paramedic would be responsible to direct the care of the patient and delegate as appropriate for the scope of practice. The two person care team is responsible to assess and apply appropriate medical treatment protocols to care for the patient. The Paramedic directly reports to the Operations Manger which handles non-clinical job performance items. The Paramedic provides patient care under the authority of the Medical Director and reports to the Clinical Manager for clinical care issues.

Operates and maintains PTN vehicles in a safe and ready condition. Provides safe, quality care to ill or injured patients in prehospital or intrahospital setting. Will be primarily responsible in field situations if holding senior medic status. When performing SCT, will act under the direction of the Transport Nurse during care and transport of interhospital patients. Provides ongoing monitoring and management as directed of the critically ill or injured during transport.

All Duties Listed Below Are Essential Unless Noted Otherwise

Practices within the scope of practice for appropriate state certification under medical supervision.

Demonstrates appropriate assessment skills in following established patient care protocols and collaborates with other health team members.

Practices within their scope of practice as defined by the appropriate State certification and shall be accountable for their actions.

Provide a safe, therapeutic, and efficient patient care environment through collaboration with other disciplines.

Supports and adheres to the State of Ohio, Michigan, ProMedica Health System and ProMedica Transportation Network policies and procedures.

Assist in assessment and treatment of patient care needs in the field or at the transferring medical facility, and ensures the patient needs are met, reassessed, and treated constantly until the patient is delivered to designated treatment facility.

Maintain PTN vehicles in a constant state of readiness and cleanliness. Document checks of PTN vehicles and equipment every shift.

Performs all other duties as assigned

:: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Skills: Must interact well with people and be flexible in assuming a variety of tasks in a hospital and pre-hospital setting. Ability to work independently and make decisions away from the controlled hospital environment. Must be able to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries; requires effective interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate effectively and have excellent public relations skills. Must be able to maintain composure and utilize tact in stressful situations. Must be able to input and retrieve information from computer. Must be able to read maps and follow directions.

License: Must be a certified EMT Paramedic (EMT-P) in the State of Ohio. Michigan licensure must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Certification: Must obtain in (6) months of hire and maintain: BCLS, ACLS, PALS, ITLS, PEPP, NRP

Maintain a good driving record as required by PTN and PHS.

Preferred Qualifications

License: Michigan paramedic licensure

Certification: BTLS and National Registry
