Job description

Position: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Basic)

Responsible for performing emergency medical treatment, communication, and transport to the Medical Center. The EMT-Basic is an entry-level basic life support professional capable of functioning independently at the basic life support level, while focused on gaining knowledge and experience.

  1. Assesses and treats ill and injured patients in accordance with local and University Protocols.
  2. Maintains safety as a primary role throughout all aspects of care and transportation.
  3. Identifies potential areas for improved care.
  4. Interfaces effectively with peers and customers, and assumes responsibility for the professional development of self and others per department policy.
  5. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Position Compensation Range: $16.31 - $25.28 Hourly

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent required.
  • Experience: None required.
  • Licensure: Certified as a Health Emergency Medical Technician in the Commonwealth of Virginia required. Valid Driver's License (VADL) with at least 2 years of driving experience required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. EVOC certification and being a released driver to transport patients required within 90 days of hire.
Physical Demands

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending, stooping, traveling, climbing (ladder, steps), and driving. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail and legible writing ability; ability to lift/push/pull > 100 lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, vibrations, humidity, cold, heat, noise, outdoor climate, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases.
