Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an EMT to deliver Basic Life Support and advanced patient care under West Virginia protocols. You will assess patients, determine treatments, manage airway, medications, and defibrillation. Role includes ambulatory transport and coordination with medical direction and receiving facilities.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, current WV EMT registration, and timely certification updates (BLS, EPC, EVOS, NIMS). A valid WV driver’s license is essential.

• WV EMS EMT Certification must be obtained within one month of hire and renewed every two years.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• EVOS certification or obtainable within one month of hire.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent within one month.
• EPC certification or obtainable within three months.
• WV EMS Blood Endorsement or obtainable within one year.
• NIMS training or obtain within one month of hire.
• Unencumbered EMS practice in WV and compliance with laws.

Responsibilities

• Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) patient care per WV EMT scope and protocols.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and formulate treatment plans.
• Manage advanced airway, medications, defibrillation, and other BLS procedures per protocol.
• Start and monitor medical treatments, including med administration.
• Respond to 911 calls, interfacility and specialty transports with credentialing.
• Obtain medical direction when required and communicate with receiving facilities.

Job description

• Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) patient care consistent with the West Virginia EMT Scope of practice and applicable EMS protocols.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and formulate appropriate treatment plans.
• Perform advanced airway management, pharmacological interventions, defibrillation, and other BLS procedures authorized by protocol and credentialing.
• Initiate and maintain appropriate medical treatments, including medication administration and monitoring.
• Provide medical care during 911 emergency responses, interfacility transports, and specialty transports consistent with agency credentialing and transport requirements.
• Obtain medical direction when required by protocol or clinical judgment.
• Continuously monitor patient condition and adjust care as appropriate.
• Communicate patient condition and treatment information to receiving facilities.

Requirements

• Possession of a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
• National Registry of EMTs Emergency Medical Technician registration and to be renewed every two (2) years.
• West Virginia Office of EMS EMT Certification to be obtained in one (1) month of hire and renewed every two years.
• Valid Driver’s License with driving record acceptable by motor vehicle insurance carrier.
• Minimum of two (2) years of driving experience.
• Emergency Vehicle Operator Safety (EVOS) certification or successfully obtain within one (1) month of hire and renewed every four (4) years.
• Valid BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent certification or successfully obtain within one (1) month of hire and renewed every two (2) years.
• Emergency pediatric Care (EPC) certification or successfully obtain within three (3) months of hire and renewed every four (4) years.
• West Virginia Office of EMS Blood Endorsement (Assistant) or successfully obtain within one (1) year of hire and renewed annually.
• Successful completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) or successfully obtain within (1) month of hire.
• Unencumbered ability to practice Emergency Medical Services within the State of WV and be in compliance with all federal, State, and Local Statutes rules and regulations.
• Background check that does not demonstrate a threat to public safety, health or welfare nor an unwillingness to comply with state laws, rules, procedures, etc. Not have been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving or other vehicular violation causing bodily injury or death within two (2) years prior to hire
