CP09 Carilion Clinic Patient Transportation LLC is hiring an EMT-Basic in Radford, VA, for full-time transport services. The candidate will provide essential care and transport to patients, responding to emergencies and ensuring patient safety.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent (required).

Job Overview

Employment Status: Full time Shift: Variable Hours (United States of America) Facility: 805 Randolph St - Radford Requisition Number: R158492 EMT‑Basic - Radford Transport - FT

Responsibilities

• Administers basic life support care and transport to patients in pre‑hospital settings as authorized and directed by a physician.
• Performs a variety of skills related to acute and non‑acute settings in ground transport.
• Responds to medical emergencies in a 911 setting and protects life while administering cardiac and trauma support when needed.
• Administers initial treatment at the emergency scene, assesses patient response, and makes adjustments as needed.
• Gathers and analyzes information, using reason when dealing with emotional topics.
• Manages difficult customer situations and maintains confidentiality.
• Assesses the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures.
• Administers emergency procedures such as extrication of patient, defibrillation, and other non‑invasive treatments.
• Administers medications and initiates treatments at the basic level.
• Observes, records, and reports to physician or command‑center personnel the patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
• Utilizes excellent communication skills in dealing with staff, peers, patients, and family members in diverse situations.
• Keeps current on treatment techniques, protocol changes, and application of new drugs, material, and equipment.
• Takes responsibility for own actions and those of support team members.
• Coordinates activities with external entities when needed.
• Prepares required reports and maintains records of activities.
• Obtains all information needed for insurance billings of patients and has knowledge of covered and non‑covered charges as they pertain to ambulance services and insurance guidelines.
• Writes clearly and presents numerical data/patient reports effectively and on time.
• Maintains knowledge of basic computer skills and applicable software.
• Checks daily units assigned, cleans and stocks, and reports any malfunctions to the in‑house mechanic.
• Maintains cost efficiency in supplies and uses resources appropriately.
• Transports patients to hospital and non‑hospital sites observing safety guidelines.
• Maintains basic transport medical knowledge and abilities.
• Maintains an excellent driving record and may operate vehicle to an emergency scene.
• Maintains knowledge of state and federal laws and follows agency protocols, Carilion policies and procedures regarding safety and patient care.
• Maintains continuing education requirements by national, state, and Carilion standards.

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent (required).
• Certified as an Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Virginia (required).
• AHA BLS – HCP required.
• HAZMAT Awareness and PHTLS or BTLS Basic required within one year of hire date.
• Must provide a copy of current driving record and meet eligibility requirements.
• Must maintain continuing education hours to meet re‑certification status as required by state (national) standards.
• Must maintain an excellent driving record.
