Description
EMTs respond to medical and traumatic emergencies and provide basic life support procedures and transportation to the most appropriate facility. They also provide basic life support services to interfacility transfer patients as required. EMTs carry themselves professionally and assist other company departments where needed.
Primary Responsibilities
- Respond to selected medical and traumatic emergencies, including hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes for inter‑facility transfers.
- Provide emergency medical care at the scene, en route, and during transport between facilities, adhering to company and state guidelines.
- Perform basic (or intermediate) life support procedures based on certification level.
- Perform other duties related to emergency and non‑emergency medical care and development of the emergency medical system and/or Patriot Ambulance.
Specific and Additional Tasks / Duties
- Present an example of professionalism and leadership, placing patient care excellence above all else.
- Demonstrate and ensure knowledge, understanding, and compliance with TMHC Team Mobile Health Care's procedures.
- Continuously improve operations, reduce turnaround times, streamline processes, and cooperate with coworkers to provide quality customer care.
- Ensure vehicle and equipment are ready for use at the beginning of shifts and after every call.
- Respond to emergencies and non‑emergencies using appropriate care in accordance with Tennessee law, EMS regulations, company policy, and safe vehicle operation principles; always wear seatbelt in a company vehicle.
- Adhere to Universal Precautions/Body Substance Isolation and infection control policies.
- When necessary, direct and supervise other team members in emergency situations.
- Deliver patients safely to the nearest appropriate facility, following TMHC, state, DPH/OEMS, and regional guidelines.
- Work professionally with ALS personnel, maintaining good relations with all outside staff and services.
- Act in the best interests of high‑quality patient care and reflect credibly on TMHC.
- Maintain personal safety and the safety of others while providing high‑quality patient care during transport.
- Provide receiving staff with a comprehensive report of patient status after arrival.
- Complete all documentation, patient care records, and other records for every patient contact.
- Participate in public relations and community education programs sponsored by TMHC.
- Attend required continuing education courses, maintain certifications (CPR, EMT Card, etc.), and file paperwork with DPH/OEMS for recertification.
- Provide TMHC with current copies of EMT certification, CPR card, and driver’s license; complete company, state, and federal training mandates.
- Report to assigned shifts in proper uniform, arrive on time, and remain on duty until relieved.
- Orient and train third riders or student interns; complete documentation on their behalf.
- Consult supervisor on non‑routine matters.
- Complete day‑to‑day assignments such as cleaning, laundry, trash removal, etc.
- Complete any other tasks or duties as assigned.
Location, Reporting Structure, and Hours
- EMT position may be full‑time, part‑time, or per diem.
- The position is in the surrounding Manchester, TN area.
- Position reports to the daily supervisor.
- Competitive nights/weekend pay.
Requirements
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Strong multi‑tasking and time‑management abilities.
- Currently certified as an EMT by the Tennessee Department of Public Health Office of Emergency Medical Services.
- Current CPR – Basic Life Support certification by the American Heart Association or American Safety and Health Institute.
- Current and active Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, using good judgment and common sense with a thorough understanding of emergency medical care principles.
- Ability to work efficiently and constructively with other employees, partners, public safety personnel, medical staff, and other EMS members.
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with patients, customers, clients, family members, bystanders, and the general public in a manner reflecting credibly on TMHC.
- Demonstrates a level of skill and ability consistent with provision of high‑quality patient care.
- Ability to perform effectively as a team leader in patient care situations.
- Ability to perform effectively in public relations and community education functions and promote TMHC.
- Ability to lift and maneuver 150 pounds with assistance without difficulty.
- Ability to walk up and down stairs without difficulty and lift and carry 150 pounds up/down two flights of stairs with assistance without difficulty.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
- Ability to walk a distance of one‑quarter mile without difficulty and without affecting performance of job duties.
