Purpose

Ensure suitability of plasmapheresis donors, through the use of the SOP, current FDA and State guidelines, OSHA, CLIA, cGMP, and all internal company procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform History and Physical Exams on all applicant donors to assess donor suitability.
- Perform Repeat History and Physical exams on an annual basis of qualified donors.
- Explain process of Plasmapheresis and obtain signed consent.
- Evaluate donor reactions and initiate appropriate therapy.
- Initiate emergency medical procedures as needed, per standing orders of the physician.
- Notify physician of all emergencies.
- Serve as a liaison between the center and medical facilities and physician.
- Review donor’s lab data/test results and collection records to determine continued suitability.
- Provide confidential counseling to ineligible donors and those with positive test results.
- Maintain donor and personnel confidentiality.
- Review test results and perform checks for donors with weight loss.
- Monitor donors during plasmapheresis and perform periodic checks of donor floor.
- Participate in quality assurance, safety, education, and training programs.
- Provide first aid for injuries and monitor emergency supplies.
- Train in donor screening within 3 months of certification and assist in various center operations as needed.
- Determine Hematocrit and Protein levels using appropriate equipment.
- Perform proficiency testing, statistical analysis, and calibration as required.
- Consult with Medical Director on donor suitability and reactions.
- Report unusual medical problems and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Make decisions on donor suitability based on broad medical knowledge and SOP.
- Evaluate donor reactions and notify management of any deviations from SOP.
- Review SOP, cGMP, and policies annually and adhere to all safety and operational rules.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Licensed in the state of employment, with current CPR certification.
- Physician Substitute – EMT basic or above, RN, or Licensed LVN/LPN.
- Proficient in computer entry, bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
- Additional certifications in donor screening, phlebotomy, plasma processing may be required.
- Travel may be required.
Physical Demands
Must be able to talk, hear, handle objects, stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and operate equipment used in plasma donation procedures.
Work Environment
Standard office equipment, exposure to bloodborne pathogens, use of PPE such as gloves, lab coats, and eyewear.
