Description

SUMMARY: Provides emergency medical care, patient assessment and care, transport services, and other services by performing the following duties. Appropriate for an energetic, professionally minded EMS individual.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Valid, current state Emergency Medical Technician certification.
  2. Valid current Driver's License. Has no more than 2 accidents &/or moving violations in the last 3 years.
  3. In general, no criminal record in which the individual received a verdict of other than non guilty in a criminal proceeding. However, specific factors, including but not necessarily limited to how recent the criminal proceeding, the nature of the criminal act, and other factors will be utilized by Administration in determining relevance and overall impact on the individual’s suitability for initial or continued employment.
  4. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  5. May not be concurrently employed by any other ambulance service or any other entity which could pose a conflict.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Emergency medical technician training and certification required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have valid State Emergency Medical Technician certification, current CPR certification, and a current and valid Driver's License.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Safe and efficient operation of ambulances and other company equipment.
  2. Basic life support treatment and transportation of sick and injured persons.
  3. Providing emergency medical treatment, while not exceeding the level of skill, training and certification of the individual employee.
  4. Full compliance with all applicable state, local, and federal regulations and laws, pertaining to but not limited to protocols, standards of care, motor vehicle operations, and patient rights.
  5. Observes patient, records significant conditions and treatments rendered.
  6. Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.
  7. Prepares inventories and stocks supplies and inspects equipment for proper operation.
  8. Cleans and disinfects interior of ambulance. Cleans and details exterior of ambulance. Maintains cleanliness of ambulance, vehicles, equipment, and facilities.
  9. Must be able to safely lift, transfer and maneuver patients in and out of ambulances, facilities, residences, and other locations.
  10. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, family members, medical personnel, and the public in verbal and written form.
  11. Must have reliable transportation and report punctually for all scheduled shifts, in proper uniform.
  12. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, including personal hygiene and uniform standards.
  13. Be available to work up to 60 minutes prior to scheduled shift and respond to additional transports as needed.
  14. Complete accurate records and documentation related to transport, equipment, supplies, and incidents.
  15. Promote the company, perform public relations, standby coverage, and deliver medical supplies as assigned.
  16. Attend company meetings and educational sessions when possible.
  17. Inspect and report damage, safety issues, or problems with equipment or facilities immediately to management.
  18. Report any changes in driving record, certification, health status, or other relevant circumstances immediately to management.
  19. Report violations of policies or procedures to management immediately.
  20. Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive information.
  21. Supervised by and reports to Operations Management.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment involves outdoor weather conditions, mechanical parts, and moderate noise levels. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.

HOURS: Full or part-time, various shifts.

Qualifications

Must be NREMT or State Certified EMT

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires standing, walking, sitting, handling objects, reaching, climbing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, and the ability to lift up to 125 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
