Title: EMS Systems Architect

Description:

PHYSICAL OFFICE LOCATION: PEC Transmission Control Center - 8796 183A Toll Road, Leander, TX 78641

Hybrid Work Options Available
$108,240.00 Minimum Starting Base Pay* + KPI Bonuses + Competitive Benefits

Position Summary

The EMS Systems Architect position is responsible for the maintenance and support of Energy Management Systems (EMS) and its ancillary systems and applications. Provides analysis and technical support to ensure continuing reliable operations of the Transmission Operations in compliance with NERC standards, ERCOT protocols and guidelines.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Performs monthly GE Patching on EMS Linux servers and maintains the health of the servers.
  2. Responsible for the integration of various EMS applications, monitoring, and regular maintenance.
  3. Performs code build, patch implementation, and migrations in the EMS systems.
  4. Develops and deploys situational awareness and system monitoring applications, and tools for operations and management.
  5. Performs emergency recovery and troubleshooting of EMS system and applications.
  6. Assists in developing tools, processes, and procedures that enhance system reliability and departmental/organizational efficiencies.
  7. Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs the EMS systems, applications, and interfaces.
  8. Performs Administrator tasks for ITOA (Outage Tool) and other internally developed supporting tools for EMS.
  9. Monitors EMS, SCADA, and ICCP data and applications.
  10. Builds and maintains Aveva PI historian database, Pi- Servers, Pi- DataLink and Pi vision.
  11. Works on PI historian to build dashboards and create analytics to support operators and groups.
  12. Collaborates with neighboring TOs and ERCOT for data exchange and emergency preparedness.
  13. Understands and applies principles, theories, and concepts related to NERC CIP Procedures and Policies.
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Manager.
  15. Performs systems maintenance and improvement activities to support EMS, PI, ITOA, and other tools.
  16. Responds to system failures and operator questions on a 24/7 basis.
  17. Maintains the security of confidential information.
  18. Stays abreast of technological advances.
  19. Demonstrates regular and prompt attendance.
Supervisory and/or Leadership Responsibilities

May provide on-the-job training or oversee the work of other engineers/analysts and drive department KPIs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Experience in systems/software architecture, design, development, and deployment.
  • Experience with programming languages such as VB, C, C++, Java & Perl.
  • Experience with GE – Reliance XA21 or EMS vendor suites like E-terra, ABB, OSI, Siemens.
  • Experience with Data Historians such as OSIsoft/Aveva PI.
  • Experience in OS and Applications patching in Linux environments.
  • Experience with Oracle Databases and basic queries with PL/SQL.
  • Experience with Netapp Storage and Backup procedures.
  • Expertise in technical architecture, support, and documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software evaluation principles, practices, and guidelines with ITIL processes.
Minimum Qualifications - (Education, Experience)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in Energy & Utility Sector, with hands-on system administration on Linux and RDBMS (Oracle/SQL).
  • Preferred experience with GE Reliance EMS Suite.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
