Job summary

Advocate Health in Wisconsin seeks an experienced EMS Instructor Coordinator to lead and coordinate EMS education programs across hospital and community settings. You will partner with Emergency Department and hospital leadership to standardize practices and improve patient care.

Responsibilities include developing curricula, mentoring instructors, ensuring compliance with state/national standards, and representing the EMS program with regional providers. Travel will be required.

Qualifications

  • EMS instructor coordinator certification required or able to obtain.
  • Wisconsin Critical Care Paramedic endorsement required for Paramedics.
  • Knowledge of Wisconsin EMS System components, statutes, codes, guidelines, technical college system and EMS education.
  • Experience demonstrating leadership skill, initiative and personal management.
  • Strong Microsoft software skills including: PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Knowledge of modern telecommunications equipment including data and telemetry transmission.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including decision making, team building, customer service, and conflict resolution.
  • Planning, physician relationships, project management and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have acceptable driving record according to Aurora policy and standards.
  • Ability to create educational content for EMS providers of all levels
  • Ability to teach content to EMS providers of all levels
  • Participate in QA/QI as needed

Responsibilities

  • Creates partnerships with ED and hospital leadership to improve EMS program outcomes and goals.
  • Acts as liaison between out-of-hospital providers, community, officials and hospitals to improve cooperation.

  • Plans and implements EMS education programs conforming to state and national standards.

  • Provides leadership updates to management on plans and activities.
  • Addresses concerns, resolves conflicts, and reports findings to involved parties.
  • Maintains field presence for on-scene direction and quality of patient care under the EMS Medical Director.

Job description

Major Responsibilities:
  • Creates strong and effective partnerships with Emergency Department and hospital leadership. Utilizes a collaborative/participative approach to identify "best practice", to improve EMS program service outcomes, strategic planning and goal achievement.
  • Acts as a liaison and resource between out-of-hospital care providers, the community, public officials, local technical colleges, supported hospitals, and medical staff members to improve cooperation and continuity of care, and to establish advanced patient care education and delivery systems.
  • Ensures that all EMS program goals/objectives are fully met.
  • In cooperation with the EMS medical director, standardizes program operations, education, protocols, budgeting, equipment, medical direction and policies/procedures to ensure that EMS program services are provided in a consistent, high quality manner.
  • Plans, coordinates, and implements emergency medical services education programs that comply with state and national standards. Develops training and education outlines and objectives.
  • Establishes and maintains consistent service standards/expectations regarding ongoing relationship/partnerships with regional EMS providers and other healthcare and non-healthcare affiliates.
  • Provides updates to leadership regarding plans, programs and activities.
  • Reviews and addresses concerns and issues, resolves conflicts, and reports findings and resolution to all parties involved.
  • Under the direction and approval of the EMS Medical Director will maintain a presence in the field to provide on-scene medical direction, assess compliance to protocols and policy, observe the quality of patient care, and be a resource, medical provider, and teacher. Skill competencies will be evaluated and approved by the EMS medical director.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices, and
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Intermediate license issued by the state of Wisconsin, or
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Paramedic license issued by the state in which the team member practices., and
  • National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Intermediate (NREMT-Intermediate) certification issued by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), and
  • EMS Instructor I certification issued by the State of Wisconsin needs to be obtained within 18 months, and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providerscertification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), and
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 0 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, and
  • A valid drivers license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.
Education Required:
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing.
Experience Required:
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in paramedicine or nursing with significant teaching experience.
