Job summary

Hazel Grove Elementary is seeking a Special Education Teacher to support students in the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools. The role focuses on advocating for students with disabilities, implementing individualized education programs, and collaborating with families, teachers, and service providers to promote student growth.

You will plan and monitor instructional programs, maintain IEP documentation, and participate in annual reviews while aligning with federal, state and local guidelines.

Qualifications

• Meet the employment qualifications set forth by the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education and the Kansas State Department of Education.
• Hold or be eligible for Kansas certification appropriate for the position.
• Must be tolerant and understanding of students with special needs.
• Demonstrate initiative, creativity, self-motivation and good judgment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Respect confidentiality and be organized in “paper management”

Responsibilities

• Advocate for the rights of students with special needs.
• Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with students, families, teachers, administrators and other service providers.
• Plan instructional programs, including individual plans outlined on students’ IEPs.
• Serve as a liaison between the school and the community.
• Establish IEP/annual review meetings and notify service providers per local guidelines.
