Job summary

Centerstone in Union, MO is seeking a Peer Specialist to use lived recovery experience to support individuals on their recovery journey. The role emphasizes hope, resilience, and independent goal attainment through individual and group peer support.

You will connect people with community resources, document services, and collaborate with treatment teams while maintaining professional boundaries. A state-approved Peer Specialist training and commitment to CARF standards are required.

Qualifications

• Self-identify as present or former recipient of mental health services or substance use recovery.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Complete a state-approved Peer Specialist training program and pass a standardized exam.
• Missouri Only: complete the State MO-approved Peer Specialist application process.
• Missouri Only: complete a 5-Day Basic Training Program and pass MO certification exam within six months.
• Basic knowledge of case management, rehabilitation methods, and recovery-oriented services.
• Knowledge of community resources for mental health and substance use disorders.
• Ability to communicate effectively and maintain concise documentation.
• Ability to connect individuals to recovery resources and supports.
• Ability to share lived experience appropriately while maintaining professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Support individuals in developing and achieving recovery goals identified in their plans.
• Share lived recovery experiences to encourage hope and resilience.
• Facilitate individual and group peer support focused on rehabilitation and community integration.
• Assist individuals in identifying strengths and coping skills.
• Connect individuals with community resources and mutual aid groups.
• Coordinate referrals and assist accessing services not available within the program.
• Provide crisis intervention and document services per state regulations and CARF standards.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and training hours.
