Job summary

Paradise Valley Unified School District’s Explorer Middle School seeks a dedicated counselor to support students’ academic, career, and social/emotional growth. The role includes individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and collaboration with families, teachers, and agencies to improve student outcomes.

The position is a 1.0 FTE non-interim assignment reporting to the Site Administrator, with duties aligning to ASCA standards and district programs during the 2026-2027 school year.

Qualifications

• SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
• KNOWLEDGE of child development, assessment instruments and techniques.
• ABILITY to schedule many activities, meet deadlines, and work with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual counseling and group guidance to help students cope with personal, social, academic, career, and family concerns.
• Support Social Emotional Learning instruction and practices.
• Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and outside agencies.
• Advocate for students at IEP meetings, student study teams, and attendance hearings as needed.
• Maintain records of counseling services and contacts.
• Provide on-going consultation and support to teachers and teams in behavior intervention planning.
