Job summary

The Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind (VSDB) in Staunton, VA, is seeking a Teacher of the Deaf to provide classroom instruction for students who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, visually impaired, deafblind, and other disabilities. VSDB offers PreK-12 education with both residential and day student options, a small student-teacher ratio, and a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate Degree from a regionally accredited college.
• Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education – Deaf and Hard of Hearing PreK-12.
• Additional endorsement in applicable content area within deadlines.
• Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License; pursue endorsement in Special Education – Deaf and Hard of Hearing PreK-12.
• Current CPR and First Aid Certification or obtain per school policies.
• Valid Virginia Driver’s License; submit for DMV review.
• ASL proficiency at least Intermediate; aim for Advanced within 3 years.
• Ability to design instruction for children with hearing impairment.
• Knowledge of child development and disabilities.
• Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse needs.
• Plan, organize work, and follow school policies; team collaboration.
• Knowledge of technology to enhance communication and learning.

Responsibilities

• Curriculum/SOL management and planning.
• Differentiated instruction implementation.
• Classroom organization and management.
• Evaluation, reporting and recordkeeping.
• Communication with families and community relations.
• Participation in staff development.
• Development of IEPs.
• Create and implement lesson plans with accommodations.
• Monitor student progress using data collection.
• Modify instruction based on data and performance.
