Job summary

Southeast Polk Community School District in Pleasant Hill, IA seeks an 8th Grade Language Arts/Reading Teacher for the Junior High School. The position reports to the Building Principal and involves delivering instruction, planning activities, and maintaining classroom management to support student learning.

Qualifications

• Minimum Provisional Certificate issued by the Iowa Department of Education.
• Minimum BA/BS degree endorsed to meet the needs of the specific assignment.
• Demonstrated proficiency to perform specific assignment.
• Preference given to successful experience at assignment/subject/level.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
• Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
• Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
• Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals with clear objectives.
• Employ various instructional techniques and media as appropriate.
• Participate in curriculum writing, staff development, and professional development.
• Strive to implement district policies, philosophy of education, and instructional goals.
• Assess student progress regularly and provide reports; implement district testing.
• Diagnose learning needs with district specialists as required.
• Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Supervise pupils during the assigned day.
• Maintain accurate records as required by policy and regulation.
• Assist in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
• Be available to students and parents outside instructional day when required.
• Plan and supervise assignments for aides and volunteers; cooperate with administrators.
• Maintain and improve professional competence.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on committees.
• Accept alternatives to duties as allowed by the Board.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
