Job summary

Bilingual Therapies in Missouri is seeking an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) to support students from elementary through high school in a district near Kansas City. This full-time, onsite contract runs August 24 through May 28, with potential flexibility for the right candidate.

You will travel within the district to provide mobility instruction, empowering students to live more independently as they navigate their world using canes, Braille basics, and related skills.

Qualifications

• COMS certification (ACVREP) is required.
• Experience teaching individuals with visual impairments to travel safely and independently.
• Ability to conduct orientation and mobility assessments, plan lessons, and monitor progress.

Responsibilities

• Provide orientation and mobility evaluations and ongoing instruction to students across multiple grade levels.
• Teach skills including navigation in diverse environments, use of mobility aids, travel safety, daily living tasks, and Braille.
• Collaborate with educators, families, and district staff to develop individualized plans and adjust strategies.
• Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and services.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and district-provided orientation.
