Employment Vocational Specialist (46104)

Position Summary

Responsible for screening and assessing vocational and training needs for participants. Will work to enhance vocational readiness skills, identify employment opportunities, and assist participants in obtaining GED and other vocational training as requested.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Prepare lesson plans, administer interest inventories and other testing/assessment tools, and instruct adults in vocational skills such as interviewing, resume writing, work behaviors, and work skills.
  2. Evaluate and monitor clients’ vocational/occupational skills performance.
  3. Assist clients in securing and maintaining employment. Help clients who are disabled and unable to work find volunteer positions as appropriate.
  4. Coordinate with outside agencies, local businesses, and schools for further training and job placement.
  5. Collaborate with employers, Chamber of Commerce, Vocational Rehabilitation, and other groups to develop community employment positions.
  6. Complete documentation of services promptly.
  7. Provide input on clients’ treatment service needs and dispositions.
  8. Support WestCare staff collaboratively to promote cooperation and maintain a professional community image.
  9. Embody the mission, vision, and principles of WestCare Foundation.
Essential Qualifications
  • At least 1 year of experience in a similar role, preferably with adults in substance abuse or mental health settings.
  • Knowledge of standard concepts and practices in vocational counseling.
  • Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with others.
  • Teamwork skills.
  • Good judgment and discretion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word or ability to learn.
  • Ability to respond effectively to crisis situations.
  • Ability to complete work within scheduled hours.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to contribute to ongoing improvement efforts.
  • Potential requirement for vaccinations or other compliance measures as mandated by authorities or funders.
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in vocational counseling or related field preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent plus relevant experience.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily in a professional office environment.
  • Regular attendance required.
