Children’s Rescue Fund in Bronx, NY is seeking an Employment Specialist to assist clients in obtaining and maintaining employment. You will support training opportunities and help clients access programs that promote long-term sustainability in the community.

The role requires facilitating resume development, job search planning, and collaboration with employers and training providers. Evening and weekend availability is expected, with travel across NYC as needed.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Sociology, Psychology, Career Services, Counseling, Criminal Justice, or Human Services.
  • Experience working with adults on career coaching, workforce development or job placement (2+ years).
  • Experience with individuals affected by mental illness, substance abuse, and homelessness.
  • Able to travel and work flexible schedule.
  • Willing to work evenings and weekends.
  • Strong written and oral communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team to complete projects.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with clients regarding employment needs and create a viable job search plan.
  • Assist clients with resume development and job search.
  • Help clients explore training, certification, and education programs.
  • Conduct workshops on job search skills, interview techniques, and professional dress.
  • Develop partnerships with employers, trade schools, and government agencies.
  • Coordinate participation in external job fairs and employer events.
  • Escort clients to events as needed.
  • Plan and coordinate internal job fairs.
  • Schedule computer space and monitor use of agency computers.
  • Document client interactions and employment activities in case notes.
  • Track attendance to workshops and referrals; complete reports.
  • Participate in team meetings and staff trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $47,000.00 To $47,000.00 Annually

PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE:

The Employment Specialist is responsible for assisting and supporting clients in obtaining and maintaining employment. Promote and engage clients in training or educational opportunities which supports the client’s goals and sustainability in the community.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meet with clients regarding their employment needs, assess employment history, and establish a realistic and viable job search plan.
  • Assist clients with resume development and job search.
  • Assist clients in exploring and registering for training, certification and education programs which supports clients’ goals of obtaining long term sustainable employment.
  • Conduct workshops to teach job search skills such as resume writing, interview skills, completing online job applications, appropriate dress for the interview and time management.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with potential employers, trade schools, vocational training programs, government agencies who will provide employment opportunities and resources to the clients.
  • Coordinate client participation in external job fairs and employer sponsored events.
  • Escort clients to external job fairs, employer sponsored events, etc. as needed.
  • Plan, develop and coordinate internal job fairs.
  • Schedules client use of computer space and monitors client use of computers to ensure appropriate use of agency computers.
  • Documents in electronic case notes all client interactions and employment related activities.
  • Track and maintain records of attendance to workshops, internal and external activities and referrals.
  • Complete reports which support departmental activities and client achievements in obtaining and maintaining employment, etc.
  • Participates in team meetings and case conferences to discuss clients’ achievements or barriers in obtaining job training or employment.
  • Participates in staff trainings, staff meetings, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Psychology, Career Services, Counseling, Criminal Justice, or Human Services.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with adults on career coaching, workforce development or job placement.
  • Experience in working with individuals affected by mental illness, substance abuse, and homelessness.
  • Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent analytical, evaluative, and human service management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, and organizational skills.
  • Must have incredible initiative, the ability to work well under pressure, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team to complete complex projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to develop relationships and partnerships with potential employers, government agencies and organizations to develop employment and training opportunities for clients.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS (including Physical Demands):

  • May be required to work long hours and a varied schedule.
  • Travelling throughout various locations in the New York City area.
  • Lifting and moving objects weighing up to 30 pounds several times a week.
